New Tires

Hello,

Has anyone tried the Dunlop "all season" UHP Tires. I can get them pretty cheap compared to some of the other choices and my dealer is recommending them. (I probably won't get them from the dealer but I asked to see what they thought). I was wondering if performance suffered at all compared to the expensive stock Yokohama’s I have on there now.

Hey Craig. I can't speak for performance on the Z but I bought some dunlops for my XK and they were Ok but I did have a noticeable drop in performance from the bridgestones I had. Especially on the highway. I went back to the tire shop and traded them in for the bridgestones. On my Z I have bridgestones and I if I ever needed to get new tires, I would get something that was comparable to those if not the same exact tire. If I were you, I would stay with what you've been using unless you plan to upgrade your set up.

On a side note, when I was in grade school, I asked my dad for these white adidas that everyone was wearing. My dad took me to k-mart and bought me some fake ones. They were white, with 4 stripes instead of 3! Funny thing is, no one could really tell the difference except me. Especially when the sole started to come off!

Do you have a model name? I don't think Dunlop classifies any of their all-season tires as "UHP." They usually call them "ASHP" for All-Season High-Performance."

FWIW, since you live in Florida, there is really no reason for you to use all-seasons and suffer from the loss of grip over summer tires at Florida temperatures.

Here is the information Nissan gave me for the Dunlops (it might be Nissans part number though):
Front:
Model - SP Sport Signature BW
Size - 225/50R18
Type - Auto - All Season UHP
Part Number - TBILL0317
Service Description - 95W
Rear:
Model - SP Sport Signature XL BW
Size - 245/45R18
Type - Auto - All Season UHP
Part Number - TBILL03186
Service Description - 100W

The price may be tempting, but tires are a huge part of how your car behaves. They are what connects you to the road after all. A bad tire choice could turn your 370Z from a great handler to a rusty old Buick LeSabre if you aren't careful.

The SP Sport Signature is not a bad tire, but you will give up dry performance over your stock Advans. It's not really fit for a car like the Z, IMO.

What is your budget?

There are a number of nice summer tire options I see on Tire Rack for the base wheels that aren't too expensive, but will perform as well or better than the Advans...

You can get Michelin Pilot Super Sports for just under $900 now, and Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-04s for just under $800. The stock Advans run $1150 and I think both of these options are better. They are definitely better than the Dunlop SP Sport Signatures from a performance car in Florida standpoint.

Thanks! This is my first sports car, and first set of UHP tires. The budget isn't as much the point as not wasting money. I don't know much about it, which is why i decided to ask on here! I'll take your advice and stay away from the Dunlops. A friend of mine recomended the Michelins as well, I might go with those!

currently running PS2s (due to the PSSs not being available yet in my stock sizes), great tire, both on track (worlds better than stock advans) and on the street.

RE-11s are also a good choice if you're going to track, low wear rating may be offputting for purely street driving if tire wear matters to the OP.
