Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Does anyone have any experience with the Super Sport yet? It is tire replacement time for me within a few months and would appreciate any feedback on these if anyone has it.
Thanks in advance. |
Go with re-11's you'll be happier

You'd be paying a premium for max performance rather than extreme performance tires (max is below extreme...I know, a stupid categorizing system). I wouldn't be too concerned about moving away from OEM tire widths.
|
Looking for super sticky tires or otherwise really good tires?
If you dont care for maximum grio combined with low tread life, go continental extreme contact dw. |

Going to try the conti ext dw's this summer. The main benefit might be how light weight they seem to be vs RE050A's. They seem to stick just as well as stock from the reviews and quieter. Will find out.

After much internal mental debate and research, I am going for the Pilot Super Sport next month (when they are avaialble). I will post a review.
|
Sounds good! :)

I watched a preliminary review of the Super Sport tires on a manner of super cars and the results seemed to be very good. I would probably go with RE-11s personally but it depends on the pricing of the Super Sports (which I'm certain won't be cheap).

I don't know if this is the perfect choice -- there probably isn't one because everyone drives their cars differently and such. I just think that the probable better longevity and probable good to excellent performance, why not Super Sports? |

They will be on my Z in another 2K miles or so when the Yokohama's give up the ghost. |

Tires are a funny thing. Regardless of the specs and test results, I have found people go with what they know, by and large. If BF Goodrich made something beside the G-Force for the 370Z, I would probably go with that brand. I have had nothing but good results from Goodrich on many vehicles, Z's included (old school Z's). |
Interested to see your opinions on the tires.

I just ordered a set of Super Sports in these sizes. 275-35-19 and 305-30-19
|
dang, those are wide. :D

im a big fan of Bridgestone (mostly for the snappy response they provide on their summer tires) but that doesnt stop me from experimenting other brands. :) especially not when tires are like 5+lbs lighter each and test show very good results. |
Will 305's fit the 19" sport rays? I thought they rubbed.
Also, I can't find any info on what these tires weigh :icon14: Looking at the Advan Neova AD08 -- tire rack gives them about the same ranking as the RE-11's -- guessing they cost less? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...otenza+RE-11_1 |

I think the sport RAYS in the rear are 10.5 inches wide, 295 is more ideal on a 10.5 inch than 305's. I'm putting these on 10 and 11 inch wheels.
|
OEM Rays are 19x9 Front, 19x10 Rear
|
305 on 10" rims is out of spec. I wouldn't track the car like that.
|
Sorry, I meant to say the Nismo Rays. Aren't those 10.5 inches wide in the rear?

You can't go wrong with any Michelin...had them on my truck as well as my old car...best tires I've owned.

I've been driving on them for a couple of weeks now and my first intitial impression is that they are a much better tire than what I had on previously which were NT-05's
Much quieter for street driving and a lot more planted and stable with the spirited driving that I've been doing on the ramps. I don't do much driving in the rain but I would also guess that they will be way better in wet conditions as well. I actually went lapping this weekend with them and my intial first impressions were that they had pretty good turn in and decent grip, but I was trying different pressures to find what is ideal. The track is still pretty green so I wasn't pushing too hard but for a street tire that has a treadwear rating of 300 it has very decent grip. I think it will offer about the same amount of dry weather grip as my old Yokohama AD08's but a lot more comfortable on the street with better wet performance and longer life. It still doesn't touch a full R compound or slicks though so I'll save these just for the street and back to slicks for me. I'd definitely recommend these for any Z. |

On my last set of tires for my old WRX, I bought some Kumho's because they were cheap ($100/tire) and they tested out #1 in a comparison test by Tire Rack. I figured they must be pretty good if TR says they are. Well, they sucked ***. I had one blow out on me after a couple of months, and neither the installer or Kumho would give me a new tire...heck, Kumho never even responded to my emails. On top of that, they wore really bad. Even though I had (-) toe with my suspension setup, they wore unevenly much more quickly than all my previous sets of tires. So, never again will I purchase Kumho tires. I have had Michelins are both cars and trucks and they gave me great performance and decent wear on my cars, and awesome wear on my trucks. So I'm going with what I know....that Michelin tires are some of the best. |
Link says Invitation only, but that is still nice.

PSS update- April install~ 4K miles road & track (HPDE 2/3 three track days)
Sport Rays - kept Stock sizes- figure Nissan put some thought into it and I was happy how they worked for me Daily driver- a little quiter than Potenza (subjective), great great wet traction- really loves the wet, dry would say same as Potenza. Per spec they are ~ 4-5 Lbs lighter each over Potenza ea Track- did 7-8 track days on Potenza- always consistent, very confident, did get a little greasy and could definately feel the slide into a session. PSS- solid/ consistent, feel good, stick well- no greasy ( did a 40 minute sesion at NJMP this weekend 95F) tires performed great- could really push. Tread wear - suppose to be more than Potenza but maybe just a little more- I am not thinking they will last all that much longer than the Potenza Others may like want other tires based on how they drive and what goals but for me these worked great |

I bought my 2009 3 months ago. The previous owner had replaced the OEM Bridges in the rear with Super Sports. Still had the Bridges on the front and they were very noisy with the Sport package. Just replaced fronts with the NEW Super Sports ( see photos ) and the difference is amazing. Much quieter, better handling and 30,000 miles warranty. A bit pricey, cost me $800 installed but worth every penny.

I am still breaking mine in, but I notice how responsive they are. I think a little bit more so than the Potenza's.

Hey guys thinking of going with the SS for my new wheels..
size are as follows: 19x9.5et22 and 19x10.5et12... I wanted to go 265/35/19 F + 285/35/19 R, but I believe the SS's dont come in 265/35 so I might have to go with 255/35 or 265/30... but then it also turn out that they're not available in 285/35... its either 295/30 or 275/35 for rear...... So help me out guys whats the best combo 255/35F + 275/35 R or 265/350F + 295/30 or dare I say it.... 275/30or 35 F + 305 / 30 R!!! All opinions greatly appreciated.... Thanks... |
Too late for you now but in my opinion just put the SS's on the OEM Rays. I have the new SS's on my 275/40/19's in back and on the 245/40/19's up front. No rubbing problems and no rooster tails. Anything else just doesn't make sense. Phenomenal handling, amazing traction and so much quieter than the original Bridges. The original forged Rays are terrific. Why mess with them. Spend your money on a 3m ceramic window film. Incredible stuff.
