I'll probably be ordering some PSS's within a couple months. I've got about 22k on my stock tires and the outsides of the rears are starting to show noticeable wear. I do at least 70% highway driving which is why I've been able to put so many miles on them. Everyone seems to worship PSS around here and I've seen nothing but great reviews on them. Sounds like they might wear a bit better than stock potenzas also.

You have not seen my reviews...Im burning these off as fast as possible, lots of people around here drinking the MIC Juice. |

I have em on my rear wheels, I'm a little sad cause they've only lasted maybe 6,000 miles. This has included a trip to and from Zdayz, the time at Zdayz, a day at the 1/4 mile strip, and then regular driving to and from work. They're so bald they're racing slicks right now. But they have amazing grip, I couldn't break my rear end loose on the tail of the dragon at Zdayz even when I tried, and the wet handling was great!
I survived Zdayz 2013... (barely) |

Do not aregue with Mr. Michelin:

Well, they have a 30,000 mile warranty, so you shouldn't have any problems getting a replacement set, right?
|
Bought my set two months ago. Yes, 30K warranty UNLESS you have different sizes, then it's only 15K miles. I think it is because you can't rotate the tires.

Has anyone had experience claiming the warranty?
I've got about 5k miles on mine and maybe 30% left on the rears. Definitely not gonna make it to 15k. I've been driving pretty hard on them though. |
did you make sure your alignment is good? having a misaligned toe will wear out the tire very quick!

First Impressions Michelin Pilot SS
I replaced the OE Bridgestones prematurely @ 23500 miles due to a puncture in the shoulder of the LF tire. The rears were about 85% worn with another 3500 miles (est) remaining. The fronts were about 75% gone. I was VERY satisfied with the Potenzas. They're an excellent tire!
Nevertheless, after reading this thread, I decided to replace them with the Super Sports. My first impressions (same inflation pressures):
Steering response is different- more precise, although the Potenzas are quicker at initial inputs (this is very subjective and some drivers might prefer the Potenzas in this regard). Both tires are well suited for my Z. Either choice is a good one. 9.24.16 6000 mile update and impressions. Update: Moderate driving. Less than 10% wear. Much better than expected. Impressions: More tuned to touring than sport. OE Bridgestone's more sport than touring. Both are excellent tires on my Z. |

Switched to the Pilot SS tires. How they stand up to my abuse every day and still provide the level of traction, comfort, predictability is beyond me. The only down side I can think of is they don't behave well when cold (I'm in Oregon ((don't move here, it's turned into a complete liberal prius homeless hell hole / everyone is offended about everything zone "oh that was a micro aggression")), so under 50 deg mornings must take it easy til warmed up). Today I decided to checkout how they're doing after a good 10k miles of abuse, and I can see I'll probably get another 5-10k out of 'em. Better than any other tires I've tried on any car. Now I'm curious about the pilot sport cup 2's, but don't want to pay for them!!! |
my 997 came stock with the Mich "N" rated tires, very costly and I wasn't impressed, all the P guys are running MPSS now....smoother, quieter ride,,will switch when AO5s wear out..
|
I just replaced the Bridgestones with the Super Sports and have a question: Based on the reviews on this site and tirerack, I was expecting a smoother and quieter ride than the worn out Bridgestones with 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, it feels like the ride became stiffer/bouncier and a little bit noisier. I checked the tire pressures and they are 36 psi. Is there a break-in period for these tires?
Thanks in advance for your input. |

Another question: Can you look at the attached alignment results to see if they are within specs? I am still trying to figure out why the car became little stiffer/bouncier.
|
Alignment looks good; on the +side for toe (i like mine that way)
Michelin tires are a lot lighter than the Bridgestone's-for max power to the road....i never owned a set yet;but i'm sure other member's will chime in. Also, all tires take a break-in period.....Hopefully they were balanced well. It may be helpful if you include the tire sizes. |

Anyone find the stock 35 PSI pressure a tad too soft for PSS.?

I remember someone here said newer Z,Factory even lowered the Tires Pressure to 32 PSI...

if you're just cruising & not setting records...30/32 should be fine & a bit better ride. I run 2.5bar(36psi) in my Nitto's@50* so it fluctuates up & down with the temp. |
I will try 36PSI[cold]Tomorrow.

Are you guys running the ZP tires?

Just bought my second set! Got roughly 20 months out of the last set..
Went slightly wider: 255/40 front - 285/35 rear. It looks exactly like what stock should have been for us simple folk... super crappy iphone 6 photos (I want to run this pos phone over every time I use it..it just gets slower and slower with each and every OS update fu apple!): http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...pslxfoffxv.jpg http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...psa66oawig.jpg http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...psu4bohijs.jpg http://s1137.photobucket.com/user/ma...dvytl.jpg.html http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...psvkmwbz45.jpg Next up is Z1 2 piece rotor install (front/rear SPRINKLE slotted!!!) to make up for the weight penalty of the tires... |
I recently installed these on my G37 IPL and have to say they are far, far more compliant than the OEM Bridgestones. I run 33psi front and rear with a square setup, 255's all around. Straight line traction, even with -1.6 degrees camber in back is substantially better. I feel as though I could dial up my dampers a few clicks. I was to the point where I was ready to spend $2K plus on a new limited slip differential.
The noise level is also greatly diminished and seems to be in a different frequency range. I ended up saving four pounds for each front wheel and six for each rear. Even with wider rubber. I have to recalibrate my brain as the ride says these tires are soft but turn-in is just as good, they stick a bit better in the corners and are even more predictable when they break traction. klj http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psazhuvos7.jpg http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psx23ri4hc.jpg |
