Michelin Pilot Super Sport

I'll probably be ordering some PSS's within a couple months. I've got about 22k on my stock tires and the outsides of the rears are starting to show noticeable wear.

I do at least 70% highway driving which is why I've been able to put so many miles on them. Everyone seems to worship PSS around here and I've seen nothing but great reviews on them. Sounds like they might wear a bit better than stock potenzas also.

I have em on my rear wheels, I'm a little sad cause they've only lasted maybe 6,000 miles. This has included a trip to and from Zdayz, the time at Zdayz, a day at the 1/4 mile strip, and then regular driving to and from work. They're so bald they're racing slicks right now. But they have amazing grip, I couldn't break my rear end loose on the tail of the dragon at Zdayz even when I tried, and the wet handling was great!

I survived Zdayz 2013... (barely)

Well, they have a 30,000 mile warranty, so you shouldn't have any problems getting a replacement set, right?

Bought my set two months ago. Yes, 30K warranty UNLESS you have different sizes, then it's only 15K miles. I think it is because you can't rotate the tires.

The 30,000 mile warranty does not apply if you have a staggered setup as in the Sport package. In this case, you get only 15,000 mile warranty. I got 13,500 miles on my first set of PSS rears.

Has anyone had experience claiming the warranty?

I've got about 5k miles on mine and maybe 30% left on the rears. Definitely not gonna make it to 15k. I've been driving pretty hard on them though.

did you make sure your alignment is good? having a misaligned toe will wear out the tire very quick!

I've got 36,000 miles on my PSS's and about to order another set. Even wear across the front and rears and could probably get another 1-2,000 miles but don't want to push it. Feel that these are phenomenal tires, especially considering how long they have lasted. IMO you can't go wrong with them.

Default First Impressions Michelin Pilot SS

I replaced the OE Bridgestones prematurely @ 23500 miles due to a puncture in the shoulder of the LF tire. The rears were about 85% worn with another 3500 miles (est) remaining. The fronts were about 75% gone. I was VERY satisfied with the Potenzas. They're an excellent tire!

Nevertheless, after reading this thread, I decided to replace them with the Super Sports. My first impressions (same inflation pressures):
  • Definitely quieter- especially from the rear
  • Very smooth turn-in
  • Smother ride/less harshness over cracks
  • Less twitchy - no bump steer
  • Wet pavement traction about the same

Steering response is different- more precise, although the Potenzas are quicker at initial inputs (this is very subjective and some drivers might prefer the Potenzas in this regard).

Both tires are well suited for my Z. Either choice is a good one.

9.24.16

6000 mile update and impressions.

Update: Moderate driving. Less than 10% wear. Much better than expected.

Impressions: More tuned to touring than sport. OE Bridgestone's more sport than touring. Both are excellent tires on my Z.

The stock bridgestones: Put about 15k on them and had enough. Could have lasted longer but I felt like my pos wrx had more traction with smaller tires!!

Switched to the Pilot SS tires. How they stand up to my abuse every day and still provide the level of traction, comfort, predictability is beyond me. The only down side I can think of is they don't behave well when cold (I'm in Oregon ((don't move here, it's turned into a complete liberal prius homeless hell hole / everyone is offended about everything zone "oh that was a micro aggression")), so under 50 deg mornings must take it easy til warmed up).

Today I decided to checkout how they're doing after a good 10k miles of abuse, and I can see I'll probably get another 5-10k out of 'em. Better than any other tires I've tried on any car.

Now I'm curious about the pilot sport cup 2's, but don't want to pay for them!!!
