Completely in the dark when it comes to tires

acutually i think thats a good decision...the snow traction should hold up well through the season and wear down by spring..

Just an FYI, there is no such thing as an all season tire. In reality it is a 3 season tire with a minimum support for the 4th season, good in the wet, fine in the dry, and marginal in the snow. If you are just driving on cold but clear days or a light dusting you will be able to get around, however if it actually snows please stay home! The hills of Pittsburgh will not treat you kindly.

There is a reason that places like Quebec mandate snow tires, if only the Northern US states were as wise, our weather isn't that different.
