My buddy also gets rough w/ it; he uses a hammer and forces the studs out. He said he's performed 50+ stud jobs and has never encounted issues. He does have a tool (more like a machine) that he uses but the labor costs render it too costly; he takes off the whole break assembly. He doesn't use anything like the e-bay tool mentioned above.
