My Wheel Dilemma!

Yea the rear was Michelenin, not sure what model. The front I didn't check. We were merly testing the sizes and see how it looks/feels. I may get a set

I may get a set of pilot super sports.

I have just been getting alot of conflicting advice from different tyre shops here in Australia. Some shops are saying that 295/30 should fit perfect on the rear, others are saying 'no way', some are saying 275/30 would struggle on the rear and I should do 255/30.

Getting confused with all the different advice from them. So I am just going to lower the car an inch and go with 275/30/19 rears.

Watch the diameter ratio/diference between the rear and the front tire (I think it has to be with in 1 or 2%, but I could be off on that number) or you it will cause traction control to go haywire.

Also,,,if you get too small with the tires-the load rating capacity may be a concern.
With the front tire's have the biggest issue; i'd put on the largest possible (that turn's all the way left & right) without rubbing/scuffing....closest pinch point's will be the front & rear of fender's (outside part)....you should be able to slip your finger's in the gap or at least finger tip's.

Mate - you are in Adelaide I think ..........

Give yourself a huge break and talk to North Terrace Tyres who are top guys - they are the SA Penske shock guys AND also sell most of SA's motorsport tyres.

If you want to go slightly cheaper, talk to SA MotorSport tyres

Both companies are motorsport biased but if you are talking to Tyrepower or BJTM you are going to get crap advice.

255 wide is the sweet spot for 9.5 and you can go up to 275 and not worry.

285 or 295 is the sweet spot for 10.5 and you can go to 305 or even 315 at a pinch.

These tyres are going to cost (because Australia tax .......... PITA but tyres here are twice the cost of what they are in the US - just 'cos).

You will get lowered springs via North Terrace Tyres and they can help with alignment/setup as well.

Because you don;t want too large a difference in OD, there are constraints. The other thing to be wary of is the tyre load-carrying rating ... with a modded car and a driver under 25 or 30yo, your insurance is suspect if the load index is not correct ........ and for some reason, Nissan specified a higher than needed load index for the front (95) and higher for the rear (96). Fark knows why, but any tyre you put on the car needs to respect those requirements.

This narrows your choices - a shed-load

1. Taller tyres: F = 275/35R19 (675mm) and R = 285/35R19 (682mm) OR
2. Shorter tyres: F = 255/35R19 (661mm) and R 295/30R19 (659mm)

Tyre options are limited in these sizes UNLESS you import them from the US (Tirerack.com)

All I could find in the taller tyres were Hankook S1 Evo 2 at 245/40R19 and 275/35R19 and nothing in the sizes I quoted above (apart from some dubious chinese cr4p).

Smaller tyres were available in Continental Conti 5 and Michelin. The rear is actually a Porsche size, but they will come with Porsche owner tax.

My only suggestion is research the Korean brands . Kumho and Hankook plus Michelin and Continental - stay away from WinRun and the other chinios cheapies ........

The smaller 255 front is a BMW rear and the 295 smaller rear is a Porsche size, so you might get lucky.

If you are still struggling, PM me and I will put you in touch with the Kumho MotorSport dealer in Melbourne who should be able to help.

You are in the process of discovering the pitfalls of wheels ........ they are ~ half the cost as the tyres will cost you just as much or more (and wear out 50% faster).

Are you sure that your pocket can stand a TT ........ purchasing the kit is half the cost to get the car going again and you can budget for one-third the cost of the kit each year for FIAT stuff (fix-it-again-tony) ..........
