TPMS Question

Hi All,

I bought a used 2012 370Z Touring Edition with stock wheels.

I bought used 2015 370Z Nismo tires from a guy on Craigslist.

I'd like to know how I would go about getting the TPMS working.

1. Do I check if my new tires have them, and if so how would I activate them?
2. If my new tires don't have them, is it easy to take them off my old tires?

I appreciate any help.

The TPMS are located in the rim, not in the tire, so if you bought only tires, guarantee that they do not have TPMS.

tpms sensor is part of the valve stem where you pump air into the tire. you can move the existing sensors from your old wheels to the new... or reprogram your system with the sensors on the new wheels. most tire shops can do either task for you.

You are assuming he bough new wheels. The post says tires.

well, the 19 inch nismo tires aren't going to fit on the 18 inch touring wheels.... but who knows... things are getting stranger everyday in this world.

Oh he had 18s, got it. I'd have to do a search, can't recall exactly, but the 2012 TPMS part number might be different from 2015. The 2015 TPMS might not work on 2012. I can't remember what year is the cut off. I will look it up tomorrow. If that's the case he will have to move the 2012 ones to the new wheels.

Looked it up. 2011 and up is when the part changed, so the OP should be good to use the Nismo wheel TPMS in his 2012 Z.

He needs to go to the Nissan dealer to have them activated for around $50.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I had bought the new Nismo rims + tires already on them from a guy on Craigslist.

Coolpic I attached a pic for reference. Can you confirm that it looks good nad I can just bring it into Nissan?

If the tires are still stock, a good bet would be that they are there. I don't think thee is a way to tell from the outside.

drive your car to any tire shops to have them reprogrammed. they have hand held device that can read the TPMS sensors if they are there.

there should be plenty in OC/Socal.

Great I'll do that. Does anyone know what the local shops usually charge so I don't get ripped off? Also is there a way I can verify they did it correctly?

I recently upgraded my stock 2012 rims + tires. I bought a new stock Nismo set from a guy on Craigslist.

How can I check my new Nismo tires to see if they still have TPMS? I'm wondering if I should take them off my old tires or not before I get rid of them.

I lost the guys contact information so I can't ask him. Thanks in advance.

I remember your other thread.

Simplest way to tell is look at the valve stem. Rubber stem= no TPMS.

The dealer or tire shop may have a tool to read the sensor IDs directly from the valve stem. It's used to detect and reset TPMS sensors. Looks like a big tuning fork.
