Well, tire racks info on repairs & speed ratings popped up, some how. So thanks for that link. Pretty much says it all. Bridgestone (and others) void the speed rating, Michelin (and others) maintain the speed rating. And like kenchen said, some lower the rating to "H".
With this help, I feel comfortable up to XXX mph, but will not push too much. Also I'll consider Michelin for replacement. Thanks Edit: Repairs MUST be done in accordance with Rubber Manufacturers Association high standards. Last edited by TexasChuck; 02-01-2015 at 12:42 PM. |

IMNSHO, I don't think that just because Michelin doesn't de-rate a repaired tire it means that you shouldn't either. Especially if you are driving at high speed for extended periods or stressing the tires (it sounds like you do both). Michelin makes some good tires but they are susceptible to the same damage as any other tire. Don't take chances on critical systems such as brakes, tires, steering, &c.

but all damages are different so keep that in mind. a 1/4" puncture is not the same as a 1/8" puncture, location, who fixed it, materials used, etc. if you're worried, i suggest you buy a new tire. im fine with both patch and plugs in my tires depending on where and how big the puncture was, dd or not. a lot of folks say plugs are crap. i dont think so. ive fixed plenty of punctures using plugs from the outside and no issue.. 2yrs ago i fixed a puncture on my dd's tire in 11F temps... no issue even today. still riding on them. |
