Thanks for the feed back. Is the Z1 19 row cooler enough for the street and maybe some spirited driving? Or should I just shell out the extra $70 and get the 25 row? Also, anyone know what the plus side of upgrading the sandwich plate to the Thermostatic model would be?

In AZ, go with the 25 row. If tracking, you'd want the 34 row. The thermostatic plate prevents oil flow to the cooler until the engine oil reaches around 185 degrees, allowing for both a faster warm-up at startup and extra oil system protection in cold climates.

I only drive the Z about once or twice a week, and If you ever see my Z in the east valley (on a Saturday morning), it'll be my wife driving it. Her personal trainer is located at Gilbert & Ray and she likes the ride in it more than her lil Fiat... :eekdance:

Just picked up my Z this weekend. Loving everything about the car so far except for the funky clutch peddle feel(I plan on doing the peddle spring mod to see if that will help). I'm not planning on any huge mods at this point, but who knows.

One question I had for you all was, have you had issues with oil temps in summer in traffic? I commute from Gilbert to the Biltmore area for work on daily basis and was wondering if I should invest in an aftermarket oil cooler? Any help is appreciated!

My '13 has a factory oil cooler, but my temps still run about 220ish in Summer, IIRC. Nothing too bad, but I try to keep them down if I can.

Spotted a Z in my parking garage a few minutes ago. Didn't know there was another County employee with one!

tenkies 05-27-2015 01:00 PM

Getting ready to pull the trigger soon as the summer temps seem to be barreling down on us. Did any of you guys add an oil pressure gauge after installing the cooler? I was thinking of adding one in case the cooler springs a leak or something or am I just being paranoid?

I saw a few 370's roll in to C&C Saturday, but as we were walking around I couldn't find the vehicles. Did y'all stay? Couple of white Z's, at least one Nismo, maybe two, I can't remember.

Then I found a 370Z (Silver) that lives (I think, could have been visiting) nearby off of Olive, near El Mirage - though I don't think that's anyone on here, is it?

What's C&C? I was out at SCCA Solo at Wild Horse Raceway Saturday, is that it? Autocross was a blast and probably the most fun I've had in a car! Including my old boosted z's. Maybe I was the Nismo you saw if we are talking about the same event. Also, I'm out here in good ole Surprise ;)

Cars & Coffee. It's every first Saturday of the month at Scottsdale Rd and Doubletree Ranch Blvd (the Gainey Ranch area).

The one that's the third Saturday of the month is Penske, and I went once and it was a bust. Haven't been back since.

Summer time, about 6:00a. Winter time, about 7:00a.

Rain scares the exotics away for the most part though. Last week started off slow, but little by little some lower end exotics (458's, 911's, etc.) came out.

Mother of GOD! I do need some coffee at that hour! LOL I'm hoping the Z will be in Cali next time around at the FI shop so I'll be sure to visit immediately after she's back home! :D

:icon17: It goes until about 9-10 though. But with it getting warmer, some of the people tend to leave earlier.

Anybody have any experience with DynoComp in Scottsdale? Went to get an estimate from the guy for the FI twin turbo install, along with clutch/flywheel, e85 fuel system, and exhaust. First they don't call me back when trying to schedule a consult, so I call a week later and get a time. He was great to talk to in person, but then doesn't send my estimate over. Call after a week and claims they sent it, so they resend. I get it and it's missing all sorts of stuff. PLUS $2k upcharge for the kit...i guess for him ordering it for me? I call him out on it, and just politely asked why the kit was $12k, and then never do I hear from them again. Makes me not even want to do maintenance there. Anybody have a great shop recommendation in the valley? I'm in the west Valley so closer to there would be best. Preferably with a Dyno. Thanks!

conor1123 06-13-2015 02:44 PM

First of all, call FI directly and deal with them (assuming you are talking about Fast Intentions). I don't think DynoComp even has any connections with them in the first place. You will be waiting 3-5months for the FI kit to be build since they are built to order. Depending on the upgrades you can easily spend 12k-14k on the kit itself. That isn't even including a clutch. I priced out my build at around 18k just to get it rolling, that isn't including any labor. You could probably do it for around 16-17k without labor. If you want it done right without worry, id bring it to FI directly or SpecialtyZ. SpecialtyZ will install the kit for around 3.5k.

UMS would probably get it done right if you want to stay here in AZ. Just make a trip out to Cali :)

Dude just take the car to SpecialtyZ...you will get it done right witb everything you need for 15 to 17k. It just depends on what up grades you want. Really you would be foolish, take it to anyone who has not installed the kit before.

Already on it! Been talking to Kevin for a while, but was wondering about a good shop for the easy maintenance down the road. Can't take it to Cali everytime I need to do something! HOWEVER, Calling on Tuesday to officially order! Gnna drive to Cali when it's done, fly back, then fly there and take her home! AHHH! Gonna be closer to $22k tho, hang out I'll see if I can find the estimate. Getting a bit of work done other than just the kit.

Here it IS! Looks pretty good to me, I don't think there giving any of a discount for doing it all with them, but they are pretty busy as is and people keep lining up for the kit. I feel like I'd rather pay a little more and have the masterminds that designed the kit install it for me :) This isn't including the Defi Gauges and POD I want so that's why I'm thinking a little closer to $22k. I want 3; boost, exhaust temp, and air/fuel on the driver side pillar. Sounds like the pod would have to be custom made by one of their guys.

conor1123 06-13-2015 06:36 PM

Dude nice! Good thing you got ahold of Kevin! They will square you away and take care of you! So jealous hah! I was getting ready to do this soon but I'm going to build an s2000 track car since everything is cheaper lol.

NickTurnon 06-13-2015 07:01 PM

UMS or Goodspeed will take care of you -

I haven't heard very good things about DynoComp

Hotrodz 06-13-2015 08:09 PM

Yup, you are making the right decision to have the work done by FI or SZ. Listen to Nick he got the info you need for general service. There are a number of good shops in Phoenix for that.
