Ecu or tuning difference pre12 verses post 12?

From what I've read the hypertech only worked on early ecu's, Nissan must have updated the ECU code in later models. In the end though, the only tuning option that's

From what I've read the hypertech only worked on early ecu's, Nissan must have updated the ECU code in later models.

In the end though, the only tuning option that's worthwhile for the Z is UpRev.
