Question Box tune benefits

So I am wanting to purchase an uprev tune, the only problem is I don't have any vendors or reputable tuners within five hours of me. There are shops that tune here but none of them are really experts on our platform. I am wondering if I can still benefit enough from a box tune through uprev to convince myself to pay the cost for it? I will have Stillen Gen 3 intakes and an HKS Hi Power exhaust on the car, would consider buying test pipes as well to try and gain more from the tune. Does anyone else utilize this same set up? I am trying to convince myself that a "box tune" is reasonable for my car.

a custom tune is always better... a canned tune is ok, i'm not to sure how it responds to mods however.

can you elaborate? what type of issues did you encounter? how did you end up correcting them?

it seems it should respond ok since when you order the product you speak with a tuner over the phone and specify exactly what mods you have done to your z so far, but I am still on the fence about it. I wish I had a certified dyno tuner that was familiar with my platform in my area, that would make this much easier.

Yes, Osiris is part of UpRev's software packages. When you initially purchase an UpRev license (e.g. Standard), they'll have you fill out a questionnaire about your mods and what maps you want set up, and they'll email you a "canned" tune for your setup. IMHO, this canned tune isn't all that great, but I guess it's a starting point. After that, you can datalog your car on some runs with UpRev's Cipher software, send the data logs to them, and get a better custom tune for your car via their eTune program (I believe you get 5 free eTunes with the license). An eTune still isn't as good as a live, in-person dyno tune, but it's better than nothing and better than anyone's canned tune.

If you only buy Standard, basically all you can do is Cipher data logging, and loading tune files sent to you by others (tuners, UpRev). So e.g. when your eTune is set up, you'll need to tell them exactly what you want in it (in terms of alternate maps, using one or more for security/valent-mode, etc). If you buy the Tuner license, you could still get an eTune from them as a baseline for the timing and A:F stuff, but then you can also tweak the tune file on your own. You probably don't want to mess with their timing/af setup unless you know what you're doing, but it does give you the freedom to play with throttle maps, try out turning ETC off, set your own rev/speed limits on the various maps, change idle speed, disable DTCs, etc.

thats great info I appreciate it! at this point I was really looking at buying the Osiris Standard product, which is the one with the questionnaire like you said. I am going to call them today and talk with them in depth about the options I have for tuning after I get the basic canned tune on my car.

just talked to the guys at z1 motorsports, they say I shouldn't look into "box" tuning and I need to dyno tune the car..
