UpRev Tune Questions...

You will find that no one will give you a straight answer. Technically, part of your warranty, in this case could be the engine/ecu, could be voided if a dealer can prove that an UpRev tune caused the damage. The warranty for the rest of the car would remain intact. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, most dealer techs aren't all that perceptive to these thing. They will however, look for anything and everything different from OEM to lay blame on You.

As far as possible damage caused by a tune, I'm a complete noob. I've heard horror stories with improper tuning on force induction cars blowing up engines, but that's an entirely different animal all together. The UpRev tune usually keeps the settings within a safe parameter.

This is why I will likely wait until my warranty ends to do this. I purchased an extended warranty and feel it would be a waste should the unfortunate happen. The Dealership is enough of a headache for simple warranty work.

We netted +6 whp on the mustang dyno w/the tune (around +10 on a dynojet), but while that sounds sad, the car drives completely different now, best way to describe it is like the car is awake and responsive now, no delay when hitting the gas, no flat spots in the torque curve, just better, pulls really hard now. Also, Jack Cecil, the tuner, raised our redline to 7900 and the car was pulling strong all the way to 7900 which was surprising.

Afaik, only GTM is working on cracking the VVEL control, not sure how that would "mesh" with an UpRev tune but I'd guess you'd need both. Custom dyno retunes at HP Logic are only $195 so it's not a big deal to come back and do it again as I add mods (I'm also on the fence about the M370).

In a word, yes. You have to consider it this way and just hope that whatever dealer you go to is nice. Their consult III will be able to tell that your ECU has been flashed, even if you are running the stock map iirc.

I'm just wondering how the Magnuson–Moss act would classify something like this. Likely the ECU, but could the entire drivetrain be effected in a worst case scenario?

ECU and potentially any device it controls including the engine and automatic transmission (worst case).

We find honesty to be the best practice if a problem comes up. The dealer is willing to work with you more. The dealer is usually more concerned with physical things, like super chargers on auto cars, than tunes in the ECU.

On the dyno discussion, at dyno is simply a tool. Each one reads a bit differently. The technology used in each brand is different. So its impossible to compare lets say a Dynojet or a Mustang and a Mustang to a Dyno Dynamics. As a customer, the only thing that is important is the gains before and after the tune, and the ability to get at cells while tune, so that no street tuning is needed. These dynos are called steady state or load bearing dynos. Those are the machines you want to get on.
