Default Uprev tuned but running lean

My Z was tuned back when it was still stock because I had an easy access to a tuner and I was soon moving to an area where there are no tuners anywhere close (Detroit area).

With post maf tubes, art pipes and hks exhaust I am now running in the 13.2 afr range. Before the exhaust it was more like 13.0 at WOT. I have a track day coming up in two weeks and won't have time to hit up a tuner (closest one to my knowledge is more than 5 hours away and works only week days).

From doing research on this forum I know optimal NA afr values are 12.5 to 12.8 for most power. But is 13.2 too high?

I have a basic Uprev cable that I used to get these values, but it doesn't tell me if I have engine knock. If there are some values that I can get from Uprev cable to help me determine safety/reliability of what my engine is running that would help too.

Its safe if its tuned for that afr. What was your afr prior to adding bolt ons? How aggressive did your tuner make the timing and how much did he dial it back in case of bad gas etc.

I'm not sure what it was. Looking at my dyno graph, the tuner didn't post the AFR values there and I didn't have my own uprev cable back then either to check anything.

I don't know much about timing, he didn't tell me anything. Let me know which values I need from the log and at what condition (WOT, idle, etc.) and I can tell you what I have now.

Not that it helps with your immediate issue but you could always make the hour drive south and hit up Pure Tuning in Toledo if you need some tuning done. That's where I had mine tuned.

Realistically its fine to drive around town and even spirited drives but I wouldnt track it without a new tune.

I don't think you are any risk at all running 13.2 at WOT. It's not exactly optimal but unless you are really lean like 13.6+ at WOT i'm not sure i'd be concerned on the street.

If you don't have a oil cooler i'd cancel my trackday though.

Do they tune Uprev or Ecutek!? I have never heard of them. Or did you have your car tuned with a different software?

I do have a 34 row oil cooler. I'm fine for the track except not sure about those AFR values.

They use Uprev which is what my Z is tuned with.

Actually just talked to them a few weeks back regarding them using Ecutek and the answer was they don't currently but if it's something I wanted to pursue they'd be happy to help.

Awesome, I have Uprev already, so less costs for me! Can you pm me the person's contact info?

.2 points isn't *that* much leaner. If you have problems, you should have been closer to 12.5 in the first place. But if you want an extra margin of safety for your track day, raise your octane. Use a half tank of race gas. I usually run race gas at track days for safety anyway. I fill up, then drive the 1.5 hrs to the track and top off at the track with the unleaded race gas. Then top off with race gas after each session. This is assuming you're doing a circuit-track track day, not a dragstrip track day.

Another quick option is to have your car e-tuned to get it into spec. The time it'll take is dependent on how quickly you can get your 0-60 logs emailed to the tuner and him to get them back to you. Works great for adding mods in between finishing touches on a dyno. Based on the tuners skill I've seen where e-tuned vehicles performed better than dyno tuned vehicles mod for mod in a quarter mile setting. I just always appreciated the ability to send logs to check my state of tune and make adjustments after adding bolt-ons or minor mods.

Yes I'm doing circuit. Thanks for the tip!

That's nice! Which tuner did you use for your e-tunes? Does it cost extra to have it checked like you mentioned?
