Track wheels

I am prepping for a track day at Sebring and wanted to get some track wheels that I can put some good rubber on and save my stockers for daily use. My plan was to get some base wheels, but if there are better options out there for about the same cost ($500-$700 used it seems), I'd love to hear them. I have Sport brakes, so clearance is also something of concern. I've been searching Discount Tire and Tire Rack, but I can never find a wheel with a good offset.

Any advice?

Anything 18x10 or 18x10.5 all around in the proper offsets. Run 275-285 all around

Im in the same situation. Been looking at the eneki PF01 and the forgestar F14 in 18 inch. I am also looking for rims that i can use on the 370 but, would eventually go on a specz so 10" max width. The offsets are giving me the problems. The F14 have alot more options though. More than your budget too.

I originally had PF01's 18x10.5" square with the 38 offset and 10mm spacer up front. I eventually ditched the 10.5" front rim for a 9.5" wide +35 which did not require a spacer. I had broken a stud and was sick of switching back and forth from stock to extended studs. I run a Toyo R888 275/40r18 square. I'm looking at getting NT01 275/40r18 front 305/35r18 rear for my next set.

Nothing wrong with running hubcentric spacers and proper hardened/extended stuff to get offsets where they need to be if too positive.

I currently run PF01 in 10.5 all around. Et38 front with a 10mm spacer to clear the suspension and et15 rear. I plan to get NT03 in 10.5 all around with a spacer in rear for clearance.

Agree on the spacers and ARP studs. This will end up being a winter purchase for next year. The 2 wheels I mentioned above are the cheapest quality track wheels I have found. Specz can use anything 18x10 and no less than 18.5 lbs unless you go with the PF01's which are the recommended wheel.

with 285's can you run that with the stock fender liners and fenders on the front? How much camber are you running?

yes, i run 285/35/18 RS3s with full compression articulation and no rubbing at -3.2 front (which is a pyrometer verified ideal angle for my setup) and -1.75 rear. When i run my 275/35/18 RC1s, i run a 15mm spacer up front and a 10 in back, still no rubbing.

I had to google RC1s. I had no idea Maxxis made a slick. Good price on them too. How do they compare to the NT and RS3... limited tire budget so looking for best bang for the buck for TT next year.

grip level is similar to the NT01, but communication is better and sidewall/carcuss construction is stiffer. end of this month will be my 6th track day on them, so far they have not shown a dramatic drop off in performance. alot of the miata guys using them are seeing alot of consistant heat cycles outta them. I'd recommend trying a set yourself. Their durability and drivability i feel are their best attributes

price range isnt there but i love my RPF1's. maybe buy 2 then 2 more later. you cant beat the weight and i love the look and stance. i have 18x9.5 +45 with a 20mm spacer and 18x10.5 +15.

i think i have question though. since some run a smaller front wheel like me, would it make more sence to not run square? a smaller width can lower the tires width no?? so 295 front and 285 rear might make it more square then 295/295 or 285/285??

PS, money aside i still want to test all setups. i get the square but i just LOVE a fat rear. i really want to test 285/285 and maybe 285/315

acutally i just looked at tire rack, in a A6 id have to run 295/30/18 and 315/30/18 to keep the diameter close. it may not be square but the smaller front wheel its mounted to would bring the diameter closer together. so it really wouldnt be a true 20mm gap.

basically if the wheel is too narrow to support the tire width properly, which i feel 9.5 is too narrow for 285, then the sidewall dynamics are not ideal. the tire contact patch doesnt produce grip until the sidewall is in tension. this is why i like to run with a slight stretch to "preload" the sidewall tension. when you run too narrow, you increase the sidewall tension delay. also when the tire is to wide for the wheel, the contact patch shape gets rounded.

I've been running my base wheels at Sebring and after 8 days on the track I'm shopping for wider ones. Instead of buying a second set of stock rims I would look for a set of wider wheels because if you enjoy tracking the car you will want more rubber in no time. When are you going to Sebring and with what group?

If you really still want stock 18" rims PM me, I will have a set of 18" available soon with BMG GForce comp 2s on them. The fronts are in good shape but the rears are about done.
