2014 Conti Challenge Round 1 Daytona

Here we go again...
It's going to be an interesting and exciting year in 2014... Starting with this weeks race in Daytona .
Doran racing will be fielding 2 cars for the full season 41 of David Empringham and John Farano and th 14 of Brad Jaeger and BJZ.
The 41 Tower events car is a brad new. Chassis built by Doran racing on the chassis known as "Destiny"
The 14 car is still chassis RC 001 but a brand new at will be under the knife soon which will see the same developments as Destiny received.
Testing as Daytona was positive for both cars but the race should be interesting.
The new Camaro Z28s didn't show up for the test days and as of right now are the cars to beat. How these car were homoligated to the series has everyone scracthig their. Heads And is sure to change the series a bit.
This year... The series is going to rely heavily on data gathered by the cars and by timing strips all around the tracks to help even out the playing field. During the roar Doran racing cars posted the fastest infield section times will posting trap speeds on the tri oval that were 4mph slower than the BMWs and Mustangs.
Round one officially licks off tomorrow / Wednesday and the race is Friiday which will be aired on Fox Sports 2.
Stay tuned....

@BJ

Just curious, did Doran have any thing to do with the development of Tim Bell's Z?

2014 Conti Challenge Round 1 Daytona

The Z28s are $350k machines built by Pratt and Miller. Their World challenge version is $425k.
They are way overbuilt for both series.
The 7 ltr v8 Camaro makes 500 hp and 475hp in stock streetcar trim. As advertised.
Throw in a KN filter and ECU mapping who knows what it makes. The throttle body is 9mm with an 80mm restrictor which is probably about 25-30 hp and still makes 475 ftlbs of torque.
If you see the cars up close and know rules for the series... They were given very thing they asked for and a lot of it is beyond the spirit of the rules for the series .
When cars in this series are allowed to put in racing pedal boxes and dual master cylinder systems , lexan windows, its beyond the intentions of the series.
Again $350k for a Contincar is insane and all It will do.. Is kill the series.

I may be wrong but things branded Chevy seem to get bent rules a lot.

Anyway glad to see you guys at it hope you have an awesome season!

DCNISMO 01-22-2014 10:17 AM

I thought the Z28 came with lexan from the factory?

Best of luck and I'll be watching it on Friday, on the TV of course.
