A years ago this one guy and me always talked about HP and 1/4 times and who had the fastest car online. Since all dyno's are different and not everyone can drag race, we decided to do a 50-100mph digital race online since 1. Anyone can do it without messing up a start and 2. Its the best way to see which one of your friends truly has the most HP which should be the fastest car if you ever met up.

We both tuned our cars using Air Boy which generates HP based off of car drag coefficient, weight, tire diameter, and the log during which 100% throttle is seen. Now on a flat road doing a run in both directions, Air Boy calculates the HP and TQ since it knows your car body weighing xxxx, to get to xxx mph from xxx mph or rpm, in xx amount of time, you should have xxx HP and TQ.

So we started showing each other our logs. His best stock turbo with mods put down a time of 7.5 seconds. My best was 6.6 seconds. I win . But then he built the motor, bigger turbo, e85 etc and now runs a 4.4 seconds!!!

So I'm curious what we all run. Lots are supercharged, turbocharged, NA, heavy, light weight etc etc. We may never meet up one day so let's try this instead to have fun.

I'm going to post his rules and regulations now, cut and pasted from the tread which now has over 800 replies and going strong...............

What is this?

This post is meant to contain a list of 50-100mph times posted by "370z's". The times should be accompanied by basic info about the vehicle (modifications, fuel, weight, etc). These times can be used as a benchmark for comparing the impact of modifications, acceleration at given power levels, and/or 1/4 mile times.

Why 50-100mph?

On other forums (namely 6speedonline) the 60-130mph time is used as a benchmark. This range is used instead of 1/4 mile times and speeds because the 1/4 mile is highly dependent on track conditions and launch. 60-130mph is sufficiently fast enough to avoid launch/traction differences in most cases. But, after some consideration it was determined that 60-130mph was not practical for many "370z's". It was chosen to use the 50-100mph range.

This range is fast enough that traction is not an issue on most "RWD" cars and the top end is not too difficult to reach (similar to a normal road tuning log or trap speed for a near-stock car). This range should not cause issues (due to traction) on most "370z's", and the top speed is such that it is accessible for even stock cars quite easily.

Why not post dyno numbers or 1/4 mile times?

We do already have a similar list for "Road Dyno" numbers. This is based on the Airboy spreadsheets and is a valuable resource. This info is still very useful, in fact for many things it is much more useful than 50-100mph times (like looking at powerbands, etc), but it does have a few downfalls. First is that the numbers are highly dependent on user inputs. If you have a highly modified vehicle, this becomes difficult. Even something as simple as entering vehicle weight incorrectly can skew the numbers.

The next main issue is that a dyno number doesn't directly correlate to how quick your car is (as compared to someone else's). Making more power doesn't mean your car will accelerate more quickly. Gearing, weight, aerodynamics, etc all come into play. Having an actual time is much easier to compare, and is more of a "real world" result. This also means that a 50-100mph time is something that can be compared across not only different Nissan models, but across other platforms as well (so feel free to post results from other vehicles!).

What do I need to do?

When you do the run, you can basically do anything you want to get from 50-100mph as fast as possible: use whatever gears you'd like, brake boost, start slower and go WOT through 50mph, etc. As long as you are on a flat surface it is OK. To get on the list, you need some way to confirm the time. The best ways to do this are with a data log, a video of the speedometer, or best yet a VBOX or similar device. Please post one of those things as proof, and then fill out the following information, using the formatting described below. Once all of that is in place, I will update your time onto the master list.

What is the format?

Two sets of info need to be posted. The first is a single line for use in the overall list. The second is a summary of your modifications that will stay in your post and people can review.

Here is the format for the single line of info. Please write "NA" if you don't have that piece of info. For induction, please list what turbo/SC you are using.

Everyone will do this safely on a close road. No different than a tuner going out and road tuning your car.

see this is all we need. go to 2:12. I timed the aventador with a stop watch and got 2.2 seconds...

I have a vbox, but I am not wasting gas for that. My car has 275hp, no matter what I do it isn't going to be fasterp

Tell me more about how a pull from 50-100 full throttle wastes THAT much gas?

If you did a few runs to get a good time, thats like $5-10 bucks worth at most.

Ill do it with a stopwatch, just wont be that accurate..

if you bought a 370Z and you're worried about gas money you probably should have bought something cheaper......just saying. :shakes head:

Tape a phone or gopro etc to the steering wheel. Its what most do. I'll watch all them and do my best to watch the speedo and figure out the time.

Not me. Watch the making of the gtr on youtube. The designer is obsessed. The 09 he said was 80% of what he wants. Every year he changes stuff trying for more aero, less drag, more power etc. hell if you can just flash the ecu for more power when you get it, imagine if it came tuned. At only 545 crank hp from the factory and over 500 to the wheels with a tune, nissans leaving a ton on the table.
