I've been reading that 2015 Z might have a 4cyl turbo AND a six. Both with LESS H.P than today's 370Z but somewhat lighter. The picture I saw of a possible 2015 z was scary/ugly. The front looked like a guppies(fish front with a way overdone body. Less H.P. is not for me. I don't care if it's 2,800/2,900 lb.

If that turns out to be true, I'll look for sales on the 2014 z's

If/when I get one, I'll think about if I'm not too old to drag race it. N/A of course

If the speed shops/dealers & 370z.com set up some drag days at a track next year, I'll be there for sure !!!!!

Are 11.9's possible ????

Easy, couple weeks ago I made a sloppy mess of an 11.6 run with no traction. These cars can go 10s on the stock motor if someone who is turbo takes a real effort to setting up the chassis dedicated for clicking off some drag records. Everyone is slammed to the ground, screws up the LCA angles and compression camber is through the roof and your riding on the inside 2" of the tire on launch if you're lucky.

The next Z won't be all wheel drive... So unless it comes with an optional dual clutch racing trans like the gtr or a rear transaxle... Then you aren't going to be missing out on anything based on ultimate performance potential. I'm sure it will have a nicer interior though.

I'm sorry but much of what you said I didn't understand. No problem with explaining it because I only drive N/A cars.

My 08 Z I've been drag racing & daily driving since Dec. of 2009. By staying N/A I was able to drive daily & drive to Florida & drag race without ever breaking gears, axles, changing stock suspension, etc, etc.
So that's the way I would continue going. A true street car & a WEEKEND warrior. Just what the car was intended to be. Thanks for your input anyway.

Basically you'll either need forced induction to get into the 11's, or settings that are able to hook up off the line with bolt-ons.

Thank you for your advice.
I've said this several times & those that heard it before might be sick & tired of hearing it again

I've held & broke the 350z.com 07/08 Hr record maybe 7 times over the last 3+ years.
I was in Florida when Ray & Jason did their best times, N/A 12.8 & 12.2.
I had trans. problems, where 50% of the time could NOT get into 2nd. gear, & was still not familiar how to use the slicks I brought with me. My completed runs were 12.8's & 12'9s with 3:90 gears.

Got a new trans (warranty)
Last year I won the 350z/infinity/370z class of the N. East Nissan meet sponsored by the shops here & a Nissan dealer.

This Spring(cool weather) I changed my gear from 3:90' to 4:08's & came out harder from the starting line. That resulted (twice @ track)with apx. 10 out of 12 runs in the 12.4's. Lowered my 350z record from 12.509 @ 110 to 12.419 which is listed on their site. My 60' times are mostly in the 1.6's range Since I have modest h.p. I must have learned how to use those slicks Disclaimer-I use the best suspension set up for drag racing & street driving. 100% factory stock suspension!!!! Got you!?

That 11.9 I posted was an attention getter. Since I don't mod much(stock intakes, mostly stock exhaust(test pipes) etc, etc, I would be lucky & very happy to get near Jason's amazing 12.2 record.

Sorry for the same old story again

A lighter turbo 4 Z would be too much to hope for. It would solve many issues with the current car. First being terrible weight distribution. Lighter 4 cylinder would help get weight off the front. Second turbo would be far easier to gain real HP increases without much money.

I pray every night that nissan will give us a turbo rear wheel drive sports car in the US.

"far easier to gain real HP" True, but

I would like it to be a v-6 turbo!!!

4cyl. must weigh only 2,400 lb & that's not going to happen. If it does, might as well call it a rear wheel drive HONDA

Is 54/46 really so terrible? turbo 4 cylinders drive like crap.. If Zs always had 4 cylinders, you would be hoping for them to finally come with a v6.

Now what would be nice is a v8.

If you wait on the new Z it will probably be a year plus before any shop puts anything out. Especially to learn all the new changes.

True... But if it comes with a version of the VQ then it wouldn't take long at all to get stuff ready unless they change it a ton. Sorta like turbo kits for the 370 were no big deal cause the manifolds and turbos from the DE fit... Just had to get the new ecu cracked for tuning (could use quality piggy backs or standalone for that at first like we did with the DEs), and adjust all the piping arrangements

Since I/we still don't know much & ^^^^^ that is correct, I may buy a low mileage 2012(best year) used to keep for a couple of years.

I know what colors I like. White, black, red in that order. The thing I'm wrestling with is what trans? In the past, never in a million years would I drive an auto trans. sports car, but things have changed.

I like to drag race a few times a year. Something I liked & did when I was 20yrs. old. Today I'm almost 65 & with my 08 350z not only did I have to drive 3 hours each way, but I had to change 4 tires before then after drag racing. That's 16 times taking off then screwing back up tires. Well driving & doing all that now may not be as much fun

So I'm considering committing a sin, getting an automatic. I won't do 12.4's like with my N/A 350z & of course I would NOT attempt go after the 370z bolt on record. I think that there would be no problem doing high 12's with just test pipes, a good tune, my old 3:90 gears/pumpkin, & a set of M/T street/drag radials.

I also like bracket racing. With those radials, I can just drive to the track, have a cup of coffee & go drag racing. Done well with my 6 spd, with an automatic it will be much easier & fun racing & winning trophies/cash.

Auto trans or MT? 2012 or a new 2013/2014 car if there's a huge incentive? Don't care for the sidelight/front of the new ones. What to do????

...I'd go with a 2011+ because there's not difference between the years other than the mileage that'll be on the car. I have a 2010 and have yet to run into a problem with it and I'm currently at 29k mile. Granted, I get a oil change every 2500 mile and open her up less than most...

2012 comes with an oil cooler & still have the bumper to bumper warranty for a while.

The factory oil cooler is not much to write home about from everything I have seen, you will want a large external on the car. I ran a friends auto 370 for a few laps at the track today and had it in the 250* range by the third lap, it was 50* out. With my 34 row and running harder ( not pushing a friends car that is stock) I never broke 220*

For drag racing you might also be interested in curb weights.
09-12
base 7at 3269 touring 3314
13-14
base 7at 3309 touring 3353
So it looks like the redesign added around 40 lbs.
The manual is 35-37 lbs. lighter than the auto.
I bought my 2012 370Z brand new in July of 2013 for $29988, with a sticker price of $37465 after the dealer had it sitting on their lot for 15 months.
