Robert,
Did you make sure that it doesn't interfere with the fuel level reader? Also when at the gas pump it may say your full, but can actually take more gas if you wait for it to settle in the tank. Not sure...just some thoughts. |
Anthony:
Funny you mention the fuel level reader. One of my pieces of foam moved and interfered with my drivers side level indicator, which messed up the law of averages and left me on the side of the highway last night at 3 am. WTG. On a positive note - I fixed it in about 12 minutes today and got a bit of a workout in last night while walking. The foam does not seem to have any effect on filling. I've put two tanks in without issue. I will continue to have to experiment with this. and find the right angles and placement. I'm 75% sure I'll be opening up this gas tank 133 more times. I do agree with Phunk, that it will probably not solve the issue for the last remaining bit of fuel, BUT it is working. The current setup I have will NOT allow fuel to flow to one side of the tank or the other at a rapid rate, so slalom or chicane style turns will become safer. I have yet to test it out on a 95 mph sweeper - and probably wont until I can get somewhere SAFE and way off the beaten path of traffic. I do have a track event come May, so if I don't test the sweeper by then, I'll test it in May. I plan on making foam and tool with me to the track to preform more testing. I did create a mockup of our tank and installed some foam just to watch how it worked. Pretty cool stuff. One side of the tank can be completely turbulent and the other is hardly wavy. This is positive improvement. I think if your sweeping turn is less than 3 seconds long, the foam may work out well. To be continued... |

What I was doing is overfilling the tank and any excess was being poured into the charcoal canister thus saturating it. Once the canister becomes saturated is useless and can cost as much as $800 for some vehicles. |
Robert,
Great update and sorry to hear you got stranded! Curious to where you are actually placing the foam in the tank. I would think that just putting on the middle hump would keep the fuel from sloshing to the other side at a rapid rate. Not sure how you would keep the foam in that one location though as your driving. You would really have to sandwich it in there tight to keep it from moving, but that would have to added benefit of making the foam very dense and help with the anti-slosh effect....but maybe too dense? Mr. nismo, I was more concerned with under filling the tank with the foam in there. |
Finally got the engine starting!
Man what a relief! I still have a few things to do, but now I can see the end closing! |

I was worried too lol

Thanks a lot for your help rusty.

Ready to pull the trigger on this when the next round comes out. Hopefully soon. NA, so dont need additional flow capability or the associated added cost. Easier install would be a big plus
|
Same deal, put it t market and Im in. I ruined an entire session last weekend by forgetting to top off. I hope to prevent that from ever happening again.

Ugh, i did that last track event. It's like burning a $50 bill up. So aggravating. |
You guys got to get on phunk's butt about RRP V2. :D
|
I talked to Mr. Charles on Wednesday actually!!! He needs to get V.2 out the door!!

One word...Retrofit!

Just wanted to throw some more interest in this system out there. I play on the dragon a lot and plan to start seriously tracking the car this fall. Would be nice to solve this problem before I run into more than I do now on the dragon.

MINOR UPDATE:
This probably isnt the update that some of you are hoping for, but its something. We are building a small batch of 6 of the *Gen 1* RRP right now. Why the Gen 1? A few reasons. I am backlogged on machine work right now, putting in insane hours at the shop. Involved in many projects. I am giving my VHR/HR intake manifold the priority in new/advanced product R&D for now. There is more demand for it, and it will be more important to my business to complete it. We have some insane demand right now for some RRPs. I dont mean volume demand, but I have a few individuals that are ON ME about it and they want something. Right now it makes more sense to take care of up to 6 people with a KNOWN WORKING PRODUCT than to rush out the version 2 design when I am not yet 100% confident in it, and when it will take away from other important tasks on the table. The RRP is not a big volume product for us. I originally made it because I wanted to tackle the challenge and because I was the right man for the job as a dedicated fuel system builder for the Z33/Z34. But I have to be wise about how much time I invest in obsessing over a problem I already solved. The RRP v2 is going to be a bit of a hurdle to get setup for production, and at this exact moment I cannot risk focusing production on it and then running into a possible problem when they get into customer hands. RRP v2 will still happen, but its getting pushed back deeper into 2015. As for RRP v1... there has been a couple minor updates. The last few kits started shipping with Nylon in-tank hoses. They are cheaper to make, lighter weight, but ridiculously harder to assemble than they look like they should be. Rusty tried the first set but I assembled them the wrong direction so he tossed them. I will have to touch base with the other few guys that got them after that and make sure everything worked out in the end (I can only assume or I would have heard back). If you want to get on the list for the 6 RRP v1s about to get produced, please post up. We can make more if we need to, but 6 was the magic number just because we had 6 leftover fuel level sensor brackets for it from the last batch. |
<--- this guy!
|
I was wondering about V2. Since I've haven't had a up-date on it. ;)
|
Ya just no time for the thing right now... too many projects at once, and that one is technically unnecessary since the v1 already has it under control. The v2 will be a pretty big project if I decided to build it with the filter and regulator already in there, but if I dont, then custom plumbing and return kit will be needed... and at that point many people are going to just want the v1 anyway.

You know you can count me in!! |
Ya we can send yours with the original AQP hose if you prefer that. The Nylon is better suited for in-tank use, but the AQP is generally problem free. I think only one person has had an issue with it.
|
Machining is starting on them tonight, so I will get ordering setup soon.
|
Damn. Now I have to decide if I should wait for v2 now that you're taking orders on v1 again. I won't need a solution until probably the end of summer.
Phunk, based on how you envision v2 will it be a much easier and "cleaner" install? |
Its too far off to say at this point, since I have several sub-versions of it. It really depends on which one I decided to finish up and construct. If it doesnt have a filter or regulator built in, it will be a lot more to install than the v1 RRP since it will involve replacing the fuel lines under the car and in the engine bay. But the install will be more what people are used to since it will involve activities that are right there within line of sight.
|
If you are 100% sure you will need one of our fuel starvation fixes, and the basic 255lph pump setup is enough for your power needs for the next year or two or three.... I would highly recommend jumping on the v1 right away. While its still in my intentions to finish v2... it is always at some risk of never seeing the light of day simply because its a redundant product with little advantage over the existing model. The best excuse I have to build it, is just because I want to for the sake of creating a superior fuel sending unit to any one I have seen. Its like a pride-fueled project for me. So it will likely always be on the back-burner to other projects.
|
How far on power can we go on V1 if boosted?
|
It uses a 255lph fuel pump, which can max out anywhere from 450-650rwhp depending on fuel, tuning, and power adder parasitic losses. After that, you would have to add a second pump inside it, which can carry you to 800-1200hp depending the same variables, along with fuel system plumbing.

Fuel Starve Pump
I would like to be on the list for the new V1 batch.
|
Parts are being cut. Bottom plates already done. There are 9 started but at least 2, maybe 3, will be going towards custom 350z versions.
OK so far the list is: 1: Spec Jay - In 2: 1cleanZ - Probably In 3: AnthonyD1978 - Maybe In 4: tracyx`9 - In 5: L.L. from FaceBook - In So we have 1 or 2 slots left. Please keep me up to date guys. If anyone decides they changed their mind and doesnt want it... no worries at ALL you are not committed or obligated to purchase at this point. The batch is small enough that I am not going to take deposits, if anyone wants out before its ready to ship, just say so. No hard feelings!!! This purpose of this list is just to reserve your spot, its not for me at all. |

whats going to be the price on this round? just gotta make sure I have funds set aside.
/edit oh mine is also for a boosted application I'd like to be able to retain the 340 I have in already. |
It will be unchanged (price). They are $1150 shipped in the USA.
The RRP uses a proprietary 255lph pump as its primary internal pump. This is the only way its tested and promised to work. As for your 340, you can use that to fill the RRP or you can add it to the RRP as a secondary pump. If you use it as a secondary pump, it will need additional custom plumbing to integrate it, and a Hobbs switch to trigger it on in boost. If you wish to replace the RRP 255 with the 340, you could try it, but its not tested or promised to perform that way. Its designed around the proprietary 255 primary pump and its unknown how well it will work without that exact pump as its primary pump. It might work just fine, or it might not... nobody knows. |
I'll definitely jump on the list if there's still room.
|
YUP still room we made a couple more bottoms yesterday so there are 10 being built now.
1: Spec Jay 2: 1cleanZ 3: AnthonyD1978 4: tracyx`9 5: D.B. 6: GSS138 7: a.stewart4242 8: J.L. 9: Arrvaxx 10: C.R. - PAID |
Finally, everything is back to its place!
Saturday, I put every piece of interior back in place. During my first test, I put in 'R' to get outside the lawn, and it feeled strange, I found the car heavier, less responsive... once outside, I put it in 'D'... and the car started bipping all over the place: I left the E-brake locked... LOL! Drove it around a 100 miles, engine response: OK, fuel gauge: OK, no fuel odor. I confirm that you can hear the 2nd pump when stop at a red light for example, but as soon as car moves, exhaust covers it. Now, I'll have to track it somewhere! Thanks everyone for your help (and patience ^^)! |
I did a trackday yesterday. Was down to 2 dots in the last session. Never starved.
