Default What would you do?

I currently have a 370z base model and I have always wanted to track the car. I am not very confident on the stock brakes. Payments wise, I am about even on what the car is worth and current loan amount. For track use, should I keep the base model, buy bigger brakes, wheels to fit the brakes, and any other hardware needed or buy a new z with at most $2k down with sport package? So I guess I am asking, is the sport package good enogh for track duty? Of couse, no matter what I still will need pads and flush my fluids... Also, I am not going to be mr track star and go every weekend, at most a couple times a year. (unless the bug bites me)

Pads and fluids first. If that's not enough, upgrade as needed. If you haven't tracked it yet, then at least give it a shot before you throw a lot of money at it or trade the car.

I don't think putting money down on a new Z is the way to go. The sport brakes are good but don't justify the cost if you've got to sell a Z you already own just to put yourself under more financial stress.

Like Chuck said, get new pads and try a track day or two and see what you need. If you're not tracking seriously then maybe all you need is the preventative stuff like an oil cooler and SS brake lines; things you need to buy separately ANYWAY whether you have a sport package or not.

It will be several events before you reach the limits of the stock brakes, if you bleed with good fluid like Mocal RBF600. Give it a try before you spend any money on parts.

I think you mean Motul RBF600? I think mocal makes hardware.

1. READ THIS POST THOROUGHLY

2. POUND A FEW BEERS

3. SLEEP ON IT

4. RE-READ THE ABOVE AND ADAPT TO YOUR LIKING, BUDGET AND STONE SIZE.

Track it with the base brakes first and learn the car. when you are ready, you can get the complete sport brakes from Z1 cheaper then it would end up costing you to trade in and get a new car.

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. I am just going to hold off until I pay the car off. By than I can have the car properly equiped with all required and desired parts and make it a third car. I dont want to risk an incident at the track as this is my daily driver. (no insurance coverage) If I need a track fix, I will just hit Vegas and hit up exotic racing again.
