Well that was both a fun and frustrating Solo Nats. Went in to the week as a single driver but after a fellow local had his RX8 lose the transmission at the Pro Finale I had him jump into the Z as the second driver for the Solo Nats part of the week. We started on the east course on day 1 and while my codriver had the times to compete with the top of BSP according to the Solostorm data, the car was having intermittent ABS failures causing severe lockups causing missed braking points and even a DNF.

Luckily on day 2, the ABS issue didn't rear it's ugly head, at least not to what we could tell. My codriver was able to run times near the top guys and according to the data, could have had the top time with just a few adjustments on course.

It was good to see that the car is capable of running at the front in BSP even without an alien driver. If anyone is looking for a class to play in competitively with a 370z, I would encourage you to consider BSP. Honestly you could probably take an STU 370z, put Hoosiers and aero on the car, and be running at the front.

The car looked good out there. I wasnt able to come over and say hi to you but I got some photos of you on course this time. Glad the car held up better than last year.

Thanks for the compliment. I wasn't a big fan of STU running on the opposite course 1 heat after BSP ran. Really wanted to get over there and see you and the other 370z run but between taking the car back to paddock and getting some lunch before my work assignment it just wasn't going to happen.

SCCA solo doesn't need more classes. What they need are classes that don't have a clear "car to have".

I think this is a step in that direction. I think they are trying to move past their outdated rule set.

My opinion has always been it's less a problem with the ruleset (there is room for improvement though) and more a problem with the classing of cars. There's simply too much of a difference in the way a miata handles and a larger car. Size and weight need to be considered more.

There were some grumbles last year about the 370z being dropped down to FS? Is there anything behind that?

I haven't seen much on that, but it would still be tough in FS.

edit:

the 370 and 350 moving to fs is actually proposed in the current fast track

With the new ProSolo rules, I'm now wondering if I should run the 370Z or the stick with the STI for STU. I haven't ran my Z in a Pro, yet. Wheel hop's a bitch. How stout are the axles in these things?

wasn't there a Dodge Neon ACR back in the day that completely dominated?

From what I've heard, yes the neons once were the car to have. Of course that was partly due to the large contingency prizes being thrown around. According to some in my region, it wasn't unheard of for the top drivers to make $10k+ in the neons.

I haven't had any axle issues on mine with the big sticky HoHo's.
