Yea I dont think he is making 380-400whp with just those mods. Your gonna get your Z Tuned as well correct?

LS1's will easily be in that range with cam and boltons.

red6spd he will most def make those numbers w that motor. those motors are crazy. my buddy has one in his 89 GTA they sell a kit thats heads and a cam and the car make around 550 rwhp (proven all over f-body forums and magizines), they are about 300rwhp stock.

As a referance to the OP. I did a run w a 2010 camaro SS (dont know if it was a stick or auto) and i took him by about maybe 2 cars? in a little over a 1/4 mile. on paper those cars are faster.

Your buddies BIGGEST problem is hooking up. I had a 95 Firebird that put around 350 to the wheels and i could barely get it to hook up with nitto DR and a some susp work, Shocks, springs, LCA, LCA relocators, and other ods and ends. His car also weights 400lbs more stock for stock. I think it should be a good race. If he hooks youll have a problem if he spins half of first gear or has a bad lanuch u got him. just my $.02

Ya I think that is what it will boil down too is launch. If I can just get a better 60fter than him I might be able to pull this one off. He did mention to me that he wanted to get a new rear end but he can't afford to do that right now. I'll def. post the results when this happens should be Sept. 17th when we all go to the track.

Your race with the 2010 SS mods for either car?

In for results. Make a video for us if you can.

Also, you were probably planning on it already, but I would remove as much weight as possible (passanger seat, spare tire etc.). You could also try fattening up your friend more before the race :icon17:

ha, no, Import Convert, one of our members on here who currently drives a Z06, used to ahve a trans am ws6 and he's very quick to regale all of us, whether we want to hear it or not, of stories about it. It's kindof a running joke in some other threads. :tiphat:

Shuck any extra weight you have, get rid of the spare, jack, tow hook, lug wrench. No need for a full tank of gas. That is probably 80 pounds counting the gas weight if you run half a tank.

Ya I was thinking about doing all that before I head to the track. I was thinking about doing 3/4 of a tank b/c its like a 60 mile drive one way to the track. Do you think I will run into that fuel cut off that everyone rants about though? Anybody know anything about the stoptech slotted/drilled rotors? I was thinking of getting some and I would assume they are lighter than stock.

v8Killer,
Honestly man, I think if you really really want to whoop some a$$, then just pony up for the 4.08 gears. It'll give you approx. 10% better acceleration in every gear. JNaut's run 12.2xx or something like that with full bolt ons and those gears (on street tires) so they def make a significant difference. If you're gonna go all out anyway, I'd just drop them in along with a good LSD.

That sounds good but how would that affect my car being a daily driver? I haven't don't any research on where to start for purchase on the 4.08, and I believe everyone is talking about the quiafe lsd and having to order some other parts from nissan when doing the replacement.

There's a couple thread's on here about the 4.08s. I'd just pm JNaut and ask him personnaly. You can pick up the gears and install kit from a couple places, it's just OEM manual trans frontier pickup gears so they're not outragously expensive or hard to source. Z1 Motorsports is the first place the pops into my head since I've looked at their website. They also carry the quaife lsd and install kits too. Pretty much any aftermarket install for an lsd will require some extras. I'm not an expert on that particualr issue but sometimes shims are needed to get everything to line up, also depending on the carrier, you might need half shafts I believe. I'd give Z1 a call or email and see what they tell you.

As far as affecting driveability, I can't tell you first hand, since I don't have them but they will shorten first gear so some folks aren't very comfortable with that. Also, highway cruzing rpms will rise by around 300 rpms. I've seen soem folks say that the synchro rev match is a little bit off with them, and then others have said not really so it could be an issue if you use that feature. There's also 3.90 gears as well which I think Zat Zuma, a member on here went to after not being satisified with the daily drivability of the 4.08s. (don't quote me on that, though, I might have his name mixed up w/someone else).

Thanks for all the info man. Ya I do remember reading something about the 3.9 gears ill have to do some research and send out some pms hopefully the cost wont be too great for all this.

Dzel 08-01-2011 10:52 AM

What RPM's are you launching at?

V8Killer 08-01-2011 08:31 PM

Well I have only been to the track twice, and I think I was doing about 3200 why?

Dzel 08-01-2011 09:30 PM

I haven't launched mine yet haven't got a chance to mess around with her yet
