Recommendation on helments
What helmets do you recommend? I'm just looking for a decent helmet for tracking for maybe three to four times a year at most. A helmet that breaths good is defiantly a must for me.

i personally picked a simpson bandit i think it was called. not super expensive, but looks good, breath's well. I'd say go try em out though.. i had a hard time fitting my big head into most helmets. Summit racing pretty much has alot of em in stock and they let you try out each one

Several friends of mine including myself have all been down this road and really your best bet is to spend the $$$ and get a nice helmet.
Even for 3-4 times a year, helmets are something we mostly hold onto and never get rid of, espically if you purchased a nice one up front. You'll have it forever. And with comfort you get what you pay for. Spend the $$ and get an Arai, You can even find some great deals on some of last years models / overstock that would be perfect and won't break the bank. Just try one on! |

I have a pyrotect...it's actually a Bell helmet (you can use bell visors) and is much cheaper. Mine was $200.

Good helmets, strong and fairly cheap. It's a little heavier than the more expensive brands but not really noticeable. Generally test just as well as the expensive brands.

Pyrotect does make good helmets. I have one and it has treated me well. I think I paid 270 for it back in the day. It is time for me to upgrade, though. I definitely want to go get a lighter helmet this time.

Oh come on' you all know what I mean. Who throws away their helmets?? Yes I am well aware of the saftey requirements but this guy is planning on doing a few events a year. That means mostly HPDE's which we all know usually let you on w/ motorcycle helmets, and rarely check to see the date on the helmets. I've been doing events for years and I know your at the track often as well Chris, so I know your familuar with how many guys are on track without the "proper" saftey gear (expired helmets, moto helmets, etc) I'm just saying you can find a GP5S and GP5W's for few hundered more than the mentioned helmets and they are worth every penny, in fit, finish, and they look amazing! Do it! You won't be dissapointed If Arai, is completely out of the question. HJC has a some really aforadable options or a Sparco for a few $$ more. P.S the Dog pic is Great!! =)

That's interesting. I've had my helmet checked at all but one event... Maybe that's part of what makes the midwest/east track days so much more expensive.

Yeah, I think the East coast tracks are most strict. It's not worth the risk showing up to an event with an expired helmet only to get sent home.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I looked at some Simpsons yesterday at Summit Racing. I have an account there. Need to go online to see there hole inventory.
I also need to update myself on the safety standards.
