Wheel bearing re-pack?

Have any of the track guys had to re-pack their wheel bearings? I have noticed a light squeal coming from my wheels on initial rolling (until the grease warms?). I am thinking that due to the high heat from several track days use that the grease may need to be re-packed/replaced. Has anyone had this issue? Are there any DIY's for repacking bearings? I searched the DIY section and couldn't find anything.

The bearings are sealed. You replace, not repack. You squeal could be a brake pad.

Rusty: Thanks for the reply. I thought I had read somewhere that the bearings were able to be repacked.....but after further research you are correct.

I am confident it is not the pads. For daily I use the OEM pads, so not much threat of squeal. I have tried on a number of occasions to just softly brush the brakes assuming that I had a pad dragging, but lightly braking seems to have no effect on the noise.

I am completely stumped. The squeal is kind of embarrassing until the car warms up....

could be from glazed over parking brake shoes on rear...as if you apply parking brake after tracking car,they can actually bond to the inside of rear rotor's....Removal & cleaning could help.

The one set of pads that I had would squeal some until they got some heat in them. So don't rule that out yet.

There hasn't been a non-sealed bearing on a performance car in decades, so re-packing a bearing is not the cure. Leave that to the old Jeeps.

Odds are you have a caliper slightly hanging up, or a pad/rotor issue.

Take the wheels off, remove the calipers and pads. Inspect and clean everything. Could be a glazed pad, a bad rotor, some brake dust buildup or other crud binding something up a little, or just brakes needing to be replaced. OEM pads aren't track pads.

I've never seen a wheel bearing 'squeak until warm'. Given the information provided, this is likely a brake issue.
