Autocross (ASP) / track coilover dilemma

Hey everyone. I'm trying to slowly build my Z to be as competitive as possible in A street prepared. Right now I'm running KW v3 coilovers but from my understanding

Default Autocross (ASP) / track coilover dilemma

Hey everyone. I'm trying to slowly build my Z to be as competitive as possible in A street prepared. Right now I'm running KW v3 coilovers but from my understanding the progressive coils are way too soft for the size and stickiness of the tires I run. I've been searching around and it seems that most of the more dedicated track suspension are true type coils. The issue is that I believe for ASP you much retain the original strut/spring setup in the rear. Anyone aware of any coils that may be able to do the job well but still retain this?

Can't you just change to a non progressive spring setup? I'm sure KW would have the charts handy to let you know a "basic" setup to go to. You would lose the ride quality from the progressives, but have a better spring setup for autocross.

I guess I can try to reach out to them to get that. From the bit of research I did the spring rates that I see recommended wouldn't match well with the dampening of the shocks on the KW V3's. Way back when it looks like someone rebuilt them, but he's not around anymore (Robispec?) and KW isn't willing to do anything custom with their coils.

I guess it's then up to how much you want to spend...I was in the same boat years ago when I built up my DP MR2 Spyder....Custom all around and NOT cheap...

I was looking at suspension setups a few months ago and basically I am ending up with stick with the Nismo springs or doing something custom which I am not willing to do.

Regular
F - 7.5kgf/mm (419lbs/inch)
R - 8.1kgf/mm (453lbs/inch)

Nismo
F - 8.6kgf/mm (480lbs/inch)
R - 9.3kgf/mm (520lbs/inch)

Tein S-tech
F 8.5kg (-0.9")
R 9.4kg (-0.7")

Eibach pro kit
F 8.6kg (-0.9")
R 9.5kg (-0.8")

H&R Sport
F ? (-1.3")
R ? (1.0")

Tanabe NF210
F 5.9kg (-0.8")

I've been very happy with my custom valved and sprung BC racing BR's. I'm using swift springs. 14k front and 12k rear. I Autocross as well as trackdays. Running rs3's and soon to be running r-comps. For the price the BC's are a great buy.

I was reading their website and it says that they're willing to upgrade the BR's to ER. I'm wondering if they're willing to work with you to provide correct valving and spring rates for keeping the rear shock and spring separate. Gonna shoot them an e-mail and let you guys know what they say.

Is this a serious build or just something to run locally? Any motorsports grade shock is going mean that you are going to have to source your own shock upper mounts, springs and rear spring adjusters.

I would like this to become a more serious build. Looks like I'll have to start digging around to create my own set if that's the case. For now I'll deal with the kw coils.

They do. Thats exactly what I did. I'm still oem
type rear setup for similar class rules.

I have a set of Proparts USA Konis and hyperco springs going up for sale if you are interested. I ran them in ASP this year and liked them a lot.

I have AST 5200 series shocks on my ASP car. When I ordered them, I just had AST not build the rears with the springs on them. Paired those with some modified SPL mid-links and 2.5" ID springs and good to go.

If you plan on getting some custom valved shocks for this next season make sure you get on it soon as the delivery time can be quite long on some.

Can I make a rude statement, could one really build an asp 370 and compete with an asp vette or some of the other highly modded asp cars?

Ok so boost buggies, either way can the z be that competitive in this class?
Heck even a well prepared m3 or Porsche will be tough in my eyes
