I've received some interest from people on the board about starting to Auto-X and asking about when/where the local events are. So I'm starting this thread to answer those questions and allow people to coordinate and get together to go to the events. I'll try and keep this updated with all upcoming events but no promises.

There are 4 clubs that hold events in the Houston area:

Houston SCCA Houston Region SCCA :: A place for car enthusiasts in Houston
This is probably the largest club and the one whose events I attend the most often. Their events are held almost exclusively on the first sunday of each month at Gulf Greyhound Park.

They use the SCCA classing structure, with the addition of special street tire classes for all cars. More information can be found on their website or by asking me.

Texas A&M Sports Car Club - TAMSCC
They have a great location at the old airbase on campus. While it seems like it would be pretty far to drive all the way to college station it might be closer for those living on the north side of town.

The also use SCCA classing structure modified to include an unlimited street tire class.

Houston BMW CCA - Welcome to the Houston Chapter BMW CCA
I've never run with them but hear they put on pretty smooth events at Houston Police Academy.

They use a really weird classing structure specific to BMW CCA that pretty much excludes non-BMW's. They will still let you run whatever but all non-BMW are just lumped into one or two classes.

Houston Porsche CA - LSR PCA Home Page
Again I've never run with them. They hold alot of joint events with BMW CCA along with some of their own, all at Houston Police Academy.

They also use the same classing structure as BMW CCA.

Hmm.. im thinking of going to that free offensive driving school class this Sat. at the TAMSCC event. I wonder if its worth the trip?

I can't speak to their driving courses but it should be a good step to get you more comfortable to try auto-x.

Anyone end up making it out to the TA&M events last weekend?

And don't forget HouSCCA has an event this weekend, looks like the weather's going to be perfect. Still plenty of time to register for the event if you want to drive and anyone who just wants to come down and check it out is also welcome (no registration required).
