by design, supposed to lull the defense/keeper into thinking that he was just leaving the ball off for someone else to take the corner while someone races onto it and bends a ball in to unmarked players. Oldest trick in the book, but it has worked in the past.

But it is a horrible play and only works maybe <0.1% of the time.
For a team of this caliber to try it is beyond me, I would punch a teammate if he tried that.

you're right, i remember now.

i know the trick corner, i'm just overwhelmed by a sense of WTF at somebody trying it at the world cup!
