Jon@AAMComp 08-25-2011 11:53 AM

Champions League Group Stage Draw:

Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli

Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor

Group C: Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati

Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb

Group E: Chelsea, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk

Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund

Group G: Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, APOEL

Group H: Barcelona, Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen

Groups A and F look to be the most exciting. Arsenal, again, have drawn in a tough group. Our group will be challenging too, having both drawn Valencia and Leverkusen. Looking forward to the next few months!

phelan 08-25-2011 12:24 PM

Manchester United - drawn into the "oh lol we made the champions league" group. Who the F*CK are Otelul(z) Galati?? Jeez.

Group H I had high hopes for, then they drew BATE and Plzen...Barcelona will trot out 12 year olds against that team.

I am excited for Real Madrid / Lyon, Arsenal / Dortmund (I LOVE DORTMUND), Barcelona / Milan, Napoli / Man City.

Chelsea - Jon, gonna be hard pressed to get out of that group. I think Genk is the only pushover group there. Valencia and Leverkeusen can easily advance. I swear it's rigged to make Juan Mata go home sooner rather than later lol. It's like Arsenal drawing Shakhtar last year, so we got to see Dudu again.

Blue - PLEASE PLEASE PLEAAAASE kick ManShitty's ***.

Predictions to go through:

A: Napoli (shock!), Bayern Munich
B: Inter Milan, Lille
C: Manchester United, cannon fodder for next round Benfica
D: Real Madrid, Ajax
E: Valencia, Chelsea
F: Arsenal, Dortmund
G: Porto, Donetsk
H: Barcelona, AC Milan

Jon@AAMComp 08-25-2011 01:19 PM

United's group is so easy its ridiculous. They will undoubtedly advance, but I pray someone sends them crashing right out in the round of 16. There are a few sides in there than can play spoiler though, Basel are a decent Swiss side and Benefica can be dangerous at times.

I'm actually right there with you on your predictions. The only teams I would swap are Ajax for Lyon in Group D. Lyon have a very good side, and they have one of the top keepers in Europe in Hugo Loris. And yes, our group will be tough, but I think we should advance.

blue660r01 08-25-2011 01:53 PM

lol they will phelan!

and does anyone notice how easy Man U gets it every year lol

blue660r01 08-28-2011 12:12 PM

Red370 08-29-2011 07:36 AM

Is it an embarrassing loss? fuck yeah it is. Should le prof show his face in London for the next month? nope. Are there excuses for the scoreline? sure. Bottom line, we didnt sign cover for the injured players, we had to dip into our reserve team and fielded a team of teenagers, when you play ManU, you have to have your best on the pitch to even hope for a result. Is AW to blame for this mess we're in? Not entirely. Should all our signings have been wrapped up prior to the start of the season? Yes. A big fat YES. AW and the board rested on their laurels and procrastinated through the transfer season and this is why we just got shat upon. We KNEW Nasri and Cesc were leaving in June, it is THEN that we should have ponied up the cash for Hazard and M'vila or whoever else we're linked with. Point is, cover wasnt assured and now we've dug ourselves into a mile deep hole. I PRAY we wrap up some world class signings within the next 2 days, but honestly, I wouldnt want to play for us right now, so good luck with that one AW.

Jon@AAMComp 08-29-2011 08:26 AM

Wow. Even more so than the lack of depth in the Arsenal side, I was impressed by the quality of United. Ashely Young's goals are were nothing short of spectacular. The other 6 well, some of the blame has to be placed squarely on Arsenal's defense, which looked like they should be playing in the Championship. It's amazing how much of a difference missing your centre half and full back makes. Unfortunately, I think it's time to buy, and buy big for Arsenal. You need pace and size on the back line. That was clearly evident yesterday. The wingers and strikers of United tore Arsenal's back four to shreds for 90+ minutes. You have the money, spend it. Apparently, Arsenal are interested in our old first team centre half : Arsenal go in for Alex | The Sun |Sport|Football

It's easy to just bash Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, but it's not fair to them. I'm not going to lie, United look VERY strong and I think, again, they are the team to beat. What's even more unsettling is the fact that they started so many new faces, Welbeck, Young, Cleverly, Smalling, and Jones. And I'm amazed how quickly these new players assimilated to the team and they ALL contributed to the destruction of a weakened, but still good Arsenal side. Let's not forget that Vidic, Berbatov, Ferdinand, Valencia, Ji Sung Park, Jonny Evans AND Ryans Giggs didn't start. Its a long season ahead, but the two teams from Manchester have clearly set the pace.

phelan 08-29-2011 10:49 AM

United do look good...and the amazing thing is, I'm reading the average age of the United team is as young, if not younger, than Arsenal.

Nasri looked good for City. He and Silva tore Spurs apart.

Christ, I could have played the defensive line better than Djourou did. Anybody else notice how he flinched out of the way for the first goal? I was screaming my head off at that.

Jon - as a Gunner, I have to disagree. We are weakened, and we are absolute rubbish (van Persie aside, I feel for poor RvP, he's leading lambs to slaughter). We made history on Sunday...

I hope we don't add to a 'historic' season by being relegated for the first time since the league was founded.

Red370 08-31-2011 12:21 AM

well, we got a center back in Mertesacker today, so thats great news, we've also signed Park and from what i've seen, can score a goal or two and we got him on the cheap. Now if we can just sign a good central mid and a left back (Santos), we'll be golden. And whats this I hear we're being linked with Clint Dempsey? He'd be a bigger goal threat than Bendtner, thats for sure, but i'm not sure how he'd fit in at the Emirates... Great for America though, probably be the biggest club an American has ever played for.

phelan 08-31-2011 12:36 AM

Dempsey doesn't work in our team lineup, but I wouldn't mind having Deuce as a super sub.

Santos is supposedly farther along in signing than Mertesacker, although Bremen players have already said goodbye to their CB. Dunno, we'll see. Tomorrow will be WILD.

Well that all depends on who you consider the bigger club...

cow 08-31-2011 09:59 AM

I've never heard an American mispronounce "Arsenal," but I have heard "Bye-urn Mun-chen."

Red370 08-31-2011 10:32 AM

Mertesacker, Dos Santos, Park are in... now we're once again linked with Eden Hazard, fingers crossed that this is true. If it keeps going at this rate, looks to be a masterful move by Le Prof, we'll definitely be Premiership contenders if we find that final attacking/creative midfielder.

phelan 08-31-2011 10:32 AM

Deadline day headache!

Lansbury to West Ham on season long loan. WHY CANT HE GET A BLOODY GAME FOR US

Park, Mertesacker, Dos Santos all in.

Paaark, paaark wherever you may be...

Watching Lansbury against liverpool made me realize that hes not first team material, dispossessed and played countless wayward passes, not in the mold of an attacker imho.

Gomez injured, blue?! oh noessssss

Red, Lansbury was never supposed to be our attacking midfielder. He's more box to box / defensively minded.

blue660r01 08-31-2011 03:06 PM

Nah hes fine. It was against Zurich and he played this past weekend anyways and scored a hat trick. He is just taking off for the Germany game to rest as a precaution so he is ready for Bayern.

My head hurts following the transfer window. Bloody hell.

Jon@AAMComp 08-31-2011 04:57 PM

So many transfers!

Crouchy to Stoke!
Scott Parker to Spurs!
Shaun Wright Phillips to QPR!
Benayoun to Arsenal!
Palacios to Stoke!
Ngog to Bolton!
Craig Bellamy to Liverpool!

Good deal for Arsenal to sign Mertesacker from Bremen. You guys definitely need a large, experienced centre half. The Bundesliga is very similar to the Premier League style of play and physicality, so he should assimilate quickly.

Blue, I know a little German, and I think spelling Bayern München phonetically is something like 'Bye-Yahn Muun-kien'. It's hard for me to spell out the 'ch' sound in German, but its not pronounced like a ch like we'd say 'church'. More like a hissing sound lol. Cow's right though, I cringe when I hear people say Munchin' lol.

blue660r01 08-31-2011 06:15 PM

I know how its said lol

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...C3%BCnchen.ogg

But trying to make an attack at how some people say the name has nothing to do with it. If you say Arsenal is a bigger club than Bayern you are lying to yourself lol

cow 08-31-2011 09:53 PM

Jesus Christ, it was a joke.
