2010 World Cup: FIFA president Sepp Blatter bucks criticism of vuvuzela hum - ESPN Soccernet

Quote:

JOHANNESBURG -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter has defended South African fans' right to blow their vuvuzela horns at World Cup matches despite global criticism from television viewers of the constant blaring noise.

The head of soccer's governing body says Africa has "a different rhythm, a different sound," and the fans' tradition shouldn't be stopped.

Blatter asks in a Twitter message: "Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?"

World Cup organizing committee spokesman Rich Mkhondo says vuvuzelas will not be banned in stadiums. Responding to questions at a news conference, Mkhondo said vuvuzelas are ingrained in South Africa's history and were used by its forefathers.

Mkhondo says South Africa's guests should embrace its culture and how its people celebrate.

Fck that sh!t

If my country's tradition was to sound so god-dam annoying and force me to watch the match on mute then to hell with it, I'd be more than happy to have it banned

I don't notice them too much anymore unless they're mentioned.

Yeah, the dutch looked flat today, kinda disappointing, hopefully it was just a slow first match. And yeah, I was pissed about Cameroon, they looked awful for 65 minutes, it was only when they were down when they decided to pick it up a bit. Cant wait for the Italy game.

I'm okay with the Holland game because Robben wasn't there. Having the full squad will be helpful, and especially since it's just Japan and Cameroon remaining (I consider Cameroon the hardest, but Japan SHOULD be a cakewalk) Holland should advance no problem.

I'm disappointed van Persie didn't show much of anything, though that cross was pretty funny. Poor poor Poulsen.

Japan...my second home, I threw them aside in this tournament, but if they can salvage a point from Denmark (judging from what I saw today, they certainly can), they have a chance of advancing. Cameroon...dear lord, they were my pick for 2nd in this group, WHY IS ALEX SONG NOT PLAYING...!?

See I told ya they would struggle without Robben!

Give it to the Danes, for the majority of the match they shut down Robin and Wesley. But WOW Elia put the afterburners on and never, ever looked back. Substitute he may be, but he got my vote for Man of the Match.
