it will be very interesting to see how will the mercedes drivers handle the 1st corner.

and the battle from 3rd to 7th will be interesting.

not a fan of ferrari but best wish cos they are the only non-mercedes that is competitive. :icon17:

and how many laps can mclaren finish?? :icon17:

Now the weather is rainy over night in Melbourne so the track will be green and clean. Also it will be 19C / sunny for the race, but about 11 degree's cooler than qualy! Turn 1 with not so warm soft tires - low grip and aggression :)

It's a shame we've only got 13 cars running!

So did Manor only show up to claim last year's prize money?

Pretty boring. This is the first year since the early '90s that I will miss the Canadian GP. This new generation of cars leave cold. No noise. When I think back to just a few years ago they were turning near 20K RPM and just wailed, it makes me sad. For the first time, I sat in the stands last year with no earplugs. Oh to go back to the glorious sound of those Ferrari V-12s of the late '80s and early '90s.

DLSTR 03-16-2015 02:40 PM

Nice analysis of this not so great race here from the BBC F1 site - BBC Sport - Australian GP: Lewis Hamilton's natural ability hides F1 cracks

alcheng 03-16-2015 04:32 PM

it is somewhat a disappointed race, never seen an opening race with such low numbers of starters.

the highlight is McLaren was able to finish the whole race, regardless what power were they running at, to able to finish 58 laps is quite something for its honda unit... and  to Button for putting some exciting fights against Perez... lol

the race wasn't that bad though, especially seeing Raikkonen coming back from 8-9(?) to 5th... only at the end his race was ruined by a faulty rear-wheel (or wheel gun, or wheel nut what so ever...)

but glad to see a non-mercedes powered on the podium.

Interestingly, many cars suffered mechanical failure, except for honda, this is the 2nd season they are using the V6 unit, shouldn't they be more well prepared?

And such BS comments from that red-bull guy, marko(?), threaten to quit F1. :shakes head: what the hell wrong with him? threaten to quit because his team is no longer running on top? does he remember his team actually was doing the same thing couple years ago covering 1-2 almost every race finishing 30s ahead of the 3rd place.

I am wondering, with all these regulations changes and technical changes... is it really helping F1 on cutting costs or the other way around..??

now the engine is more complicated, races is less exciting, but the small teams are still suffering from lacking funds.

JARblue 03-16-2015 05:06 PM

I thought Max Verstappen had a very impressive debut weekend. Sorry to see he was not able to finish and get some points on his debut.

BGTV8 03-16-2015 06:24 PM

I was there with our car club .. we had a display in the parkland around the back of the circuit and a seat in grandstand opposite the Rowing Club.

It has to be one of the more boring F1 races I have been to, the engines "drone" rather than the old V10 and V8 scream, and it was processional with too few runners at the end to maintain any sort of interest.

There is no doubt that Renault have dropped the ball badly and whilst Ferrari have closed the gap, they still have a long way to go.

Honda are not in a good place, their engine is way under-developed and the way the engine rules are written, they may struggle to catch up.

BlackZeda 03-16-2015 06:30 PM

My very low expectations of the race were met, so I guess I wasn't disappointed...just sad.

I was happy to see Scuderia and Sauber showing some life, so that is promising.

Ferrari has closed the gap to Mercedes in FP2. I'm excited for qualifying and the race.

I don't think they will be able to match Mercedes' race pace, but it's exciting that they are making strides.

For sure. We need the rest of the pack to step it up. Id like to see Williams and Red Bull more in the mix. This should be a better race than Melbourne was!

Those Ferraris have speeeed! Merc really ****** up on strategy. Hamilton had the pace to win but I believe the team underestimated Ferrari. That said, I think we're in for a four way fight assuming Raikkonen can get luck on his side.

Yes Kimi needs a break but now Vettel has the upper hand. Its going to be tough for him now. I see the team coalesce with Vettel. I will watch this one again! So much was goin on. Mercedes look truly shocked with Lauda and Toto basically saying they got beat straight up and it was not about a blown tire strategy.

It was a big part of it, though. I don't think Toto would want to admit it. Had Hamilton stayed out under the SC I think he'd have stood a much better chance of staying out in front of Vettel. I don't think anyone expected Ferrari to match Mercedes' long-run pace. The Ferrari looks like it's very good on tires, too.

Such a smooth chassis with a really stout engine is going to be a pain in Mercedes' butt this season.

Zoren 370 03-29-2015 08:03 AM

Its about time Ferrari bring back the fight for supremacy.
It has been said if Ferrari is doing good in sales they do suck on the other hand at F1.

BlackZeda 03-29-2015 08:48 AM

 Ferrari!

:thumbsdown:Hamilton/Rosberg/Mercedes:thumbsdown:

As a new viewer/spectator of F1 I was losing interest very quickly seeing as there was no competition, but this is the first actual race that has got me excited again.

I hope Ferrari keeps it up in October for the USGS!

BigT 03-29-2015 01:49 PM

Glad the races are getting interesting. But, would rather prefer Kimi on the podium. Don't care too much for Seb.

I think you are right. And about four way race. We shall see in a couple of weeks if the Ferrari can pace or outpace Mercedes :driving:

Kimi deserved a podium spot for the way he drove that race after the first lap.

But I don't mind Vettel. I'm happy he got his first win quick; now it's all business. He's a good driver, and I like to root for good drivers. Nice to see some competition this year.

I've also been impressed with Verstapen. Young kid seems to be a decent driver. Both him and Sainz. Toro Rosso v Red Bull http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra.../images/eh.gif

I hated Seb at Red Bull. It wasn't until he moved to Ferrari that I realized I really just hated Red Bull. It's kind of refreshing now that Ferrari doesn't seem like "the dark side" anymore.

I agree with you, Toto said after the race that strategy wasn't the issue, pace was it.
However if Hamilton stayed out under the SC probably we will taliking about another Hamilton win here.
However it's encouraging Ferrari huge step up during the winter, I imagine Fred must want to kill himself now with the move to Mc Laren.
If Ferrari is a championship contender this entire year, Kimi will need strong results ahead of Seb rather sooner than later otherwise the Team will make him #2 because Seb has the upper hand now, we can't forget that this is only his second race at Ferrari and he already won.
With this car this year will be probably kimi's last chance to try to clinch a second championship, he does not have many more years in F1.
However I'm looking forward to what starts to looks a great 2015 season.

I've got both the NASCAR and Indycar race on. The former has been really good so far. ~49 laps to go.

Zoren 370 03-29-2015 05:28 PM

Ferrari it is!!!!

After 2 years!

Its about time F1 to be exciting again.

m4a1mustang 03-29-2015 06:38 PM

Great day of racing today!

alcheng 03-29-2015 11:00 PM

what a race weekend!!!

finally we have a winner which is not in Silver colour!!!!

I have nothing against Mercedes because they've been struggling for so many years and it is their credits to have such a good car and good drivers!!

but to have someone to give them some challenges is icing on the cake for F1!!!!

I remember Toto have said after the Austrilian grand prix that mercedes could pull a bigger gap in Malaysian grand prix.

And today we saw another team just beat them fair & square!!!!

regardless it is because of the speed of the car or the pit strategy, ferrari beat them as a whole, car speed, driver and pit strategy, it's team work!!!

I'm never a fan of Vettel, especially his "yes yes yes wow woooooo" after winning a race, it's very annoying.

but today I am feeling happy for him, and for ferrari (and I am not a fan of ferrari either)

because it is the reward of the hard work of a team and driver!

I really feel sorry for Raikkonen, he is overall the fast driver in this weekend, but because of a string of bad luck.... he can only finish 4th.

but hey, he started at 11th, dropped couple places at the opening lap, then dropped to dead last.... and come back to 4th, it couldn't be any better, consider those finished in front of him are at least the same level as him in the fastest car.

Really looking forward to the next race where the top four, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Roseberg and Vettel all fight together fair and square!!!
