It's perfectly normal. Gently put it into neutral and don't wiggle it thereafter. See if that solves your problem. I can't think of a situation where you'd need to go straight into neutral from high revs anyhow. If you needed to slow down you can brake while it's in gear, downshift, repeat (don't do this when not in S mode).

Thanks for the input. That's what I expected. I don't normally, I'm just putting the car through the ringers, sort of tinkering with it.
