That's an insane price... if you only want one color, try Vivid Ink too. They mostly do commercial stuff but we use them for our work vehicles a lot. They have the best prices in BR. They have a NO location in Harahan too.

KaienZ34 07-23-2012 08:23 PM

Yeah just one solid color, i just want something sleek. I still don't know if i should just wait till a new-ish bodkit comes out. The one i've been waiting for, hopefully before the end of the year.

w0rM 07-23-2012 08:41 PM

What color if your Z now? Just realized I've never seen it.

KaienZ34 07-23-2012 09:00 PM

Pearl white, i used to have a bunch of pics before the part out. I don't think i'll be putting any back up.

w0rM 07-23-2012 09:05 PM

I understand

Well, if you're likely to do a body kit again, you might as well wait.

KaienZ34 07-23-2012 09:06 PM

Yeah probably the smart thing to do.

w0rM 07-23-2012 09:10 PM

Yeah, then you don't have to worry about matching colors. Wraps fade pretty fast. Much faster than paint.

Fading depends on the type of material that you are using. I'm going to wrap my Z with Oracal 970RA. It's a 4mil material and lasts up to 5 years. Since this vinyl isn't printed the chances of it fading are far less probable.

Not to mention, it's an automotive specific vinyl, made to withstand the most extreme UV rays.

Kaien, what color are you looking for? My buddy and I are going to wrap my Z, as well as Punk86's. If you want in, just buy the roll of material and give us some cash and we could probably do yours too. My buddy worked at a sign shop for like 5 years installing wraps and stuff on trucks and cars, he knows whats up.

We are looking at a price around $1500-1800 for a solid color with material and labor.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 09:10 AM

I was thinking satin black.

Good to know. I'm not familiar with the various brands and such.

I do know that even a crappy paint job is going to last 10 years longer than any vinyl ever could... as long as you take care of it, of course.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 09:30 AM

Yeah Oracal and 3M 1080 are both very good products.

Define a crappy paint job..?

I've seen some pretty poorly painted cars only last a few months before the clear starts to fade and peel. It's also relative to the UV exposure... if your car sits outside ALL day EVERY day, I don't' care how good the paint is, the clear is going to dry out. Especially our thin *** Nissan paint.

Then again, vinyl wrap is a third of the cost of a new paint job, and if you want to change colors, pull it off and change it. :icon17:

Yep, very good points.

I'm not knocking vinyl. Like I said, we wrap all our company vehicles and have been for 15 years. It's inexpensive and like you said, super easy to swap out when you're ready. We've had some vehicles that have been wrapped 10+ times.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 09:37 AM

I think i have an email somewhere from the guy that sold the wrap to doc (Docaam) for just the warp it was like 600 or 800. I'd have to look for it, that was right before doc had his car wrapped that frozen grey or whatever it was called.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 09:38 AM

The new-ish brushed colors from 3M look pretty badass also. What color(s) were y'all looking at?

Those look friggin' sweet, man

TypeOne 07-24-2012 10:32 AM

I'm going with a matte teal / aqua color for my car... either that or some sort of orange. Not sure what Jimmy is looking at, I think some sort of matte silver or gray.

Cool deal, ok so it would be around 600 shipped for the wrap from the guy that doc got his wrap from.

+ the install.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 11:16 AM

Yeah this guy just sells it he doesn't do the install. Of course Doc lives in Dubai he ordered the wrap from this guy in the states for 600. Then got it installed over there for 400, 1k total for him not bad at all.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 11:31 AM

Ok so the guy's name Nate Lowe with Sign Supply Depot and he got Oracal wrap for Doc. I guess he could get other stuff too, i haven't emailed him since april of 2011.

TypeOne 07-24-2012 11:46 AM

I can get the stuff through Oracal, we have an account with a sign supply chain. I can get the wrap of vinyl at cost, but it is significantly more than $600 a roll.

You need to determine the SIZE of the roll before you start comparing costs. Since I don't stock any of this material, you will have to buy the entire roll of material if you want a specific color. If you want to wrap your car the same color as mine, then the price will be considerably less.

Most rolls come in a 60inch x 50yard size... some also are x100 yards. Depending on the COLOR and SIZE of the roll, the prices can change.

Also keep in mind that SOME materials need a laminate applied to the top, which also increases the costs.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 12:14 PM

I was just giving the info i had, trying to help out not trying to compare or out do. The info i posted was for enough to do one car with a few mess ups and redos.

Yea, that is the problem that we have... we can't buy just enough to do one car. The roll would easily do 2 whole cars. If we could buy just what we need it would make it much easier... and cheaper :icon14:

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 01:08 PM

I hear ya, but again i'm just trying to help.

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 01:18 PM

So it would only help the price in materials if more than one car were going the same color. Would it help the price of install if more people were doing it or that's not really going to change one way or the other?

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 09:21 PM

Nice sig worm, i likey....

w0rM 07-24-2012 09:27 PM

KaienZ34 07-24-2012 10:37 PM

W0rM, how did you get it to be so long? Mine won't let me upload anything larger than what is in my sig.

KaienZ34 07-25-2012 09:42 AM

You have to make it 500x100 and less than 78 KB's or the site will down size it. His sig is 500x100 and 9992 bytes yours is 241x100 and 7056 bytes my old one is 500x100 and 39955 bytes.

I also like the satin black, but without the black wheels and blacked out headlights.
