Is the 7am meeting time good or should it be adjusted? I heard that GMR has less traffic most of the time than Malibu but 7am is probably best from our last couple cruises.

edit: yeah, there is one very popular route to take. there are some variations, but they aren't nearly as interesting as the 'typical GMR route'.

anyway if it's GMR, i might be able to go, but right now i'm so in over my head with studies i don't have any large chunk of free time available.

It's completely new to me so I guess that statement only applies to me then haha. Are you familiar with the roads in that area?

I looked around for a good meeting place and it appears that the Edgewood Shopping Center fits the bill. Large parking lot just south of I210 which is what I assume most people will be using to come in.

GMR should be a nice change.

Awesome stuff, that isn't too bad of a second choice to the Z if I say so myself.

the z is always my first choice. For some reason i have been leaning toward an EVO MR for the next car. Need a baby seat

djamalt 11-18-2010 05:05 AM

Perhaps I can make it to this run, not sure yet as I can still barely move without a lot of pain (procedure went well by they way - thanks again for all the well wishes). But you are correct about GMR being less populated, especially this time of year. That being the case, is the meet time still going to be 7am? And does anyone know if there is ice up there yet? I think only one of the roads really ever gets ice this early, but still, would be nice to know.

I haven't been to GMR since around April, but I think there really are only a couple of routes you can take. Someone else will chime to confirm or correct me. But as long as we take the route with painted lines, I'm all over it! But that section up to Baldy with no lane dividers is traveled by too many jackasses who think they're on a way road. Every time I've gone that way I have a close call with dumbasses who constantly take the inside line even when it means they're in the oncoming traffic's lane. And surprisingly, it's all takers — rock crawlers, sport cars, sport bikes, cyclists. Seems like everyone gets there and acts like it their own personal one way road.

The EVO 10s are the only generation that I would consider; huge step up in refinement in almost every way compared to the previous generations. Conversely, they just don't have that raw feel or character the older models have either.

Are you thinking a little later of a time? I didn't think of ice, this is Socal after all! I have that road in the route I have set up which I believe is one of the popular routes for taking all the great roads in that area. Hopefully if we go early enough, we might be able to avoid the issues with Baldy!

I think 7am is the best time to avoid traffic, plan on the GMR Cruise 7am Saturday the 27th of November (next Saturday)

djamalt 11-18-2010 02:16 PM

I only bring up ice because GMR is the only run I've done where I frequently had to roll over ice. Yeah, it is socal, but GMR is mt Baldy, one of our two local ski/snowboard spots. This shouldn't stop the run. There probably won't be any this early, I just was wondering since we're having this storm this weekend.

christian370z 11-18-2010 03:45 PM

I honestly wouldn't have thought of that, you make a good point. I will look into weather up there then and see what it is like so far, I am trying to decide what would be better; starting up Azusa or up Mt. Baldy.

phelan 11-18-2010 04:04 PM

Either way works, Christian. Added benefit of starting Azusa and ending Mt. Baldy would be that the route dumps is in Claremont. I know places for food in Claremont

christian370z 11-18-2010 07:38 PM

Thanks Phelan, I take it that means you are coming then? :) I did google terrain and went over the whole route and regardless of which end we start on, we will go up and come back down on the other side. Why don't we end in Claremont so that I can make you Director of Nourishment?

phelan 11-18-2010 09:59 PM

yeah, pencil me in for now. i won't be studying that early in the morning i guess

Yeah, sleep is overrated anyway.

If you have any food ideas, you are the expert so whatever you choose is fine with me.

Are we talking about next Saturday?

phelan 11-19-2010 12:43 AM

LOL no andrew, no chikin n waffles in claremont; btw from riverside, isn't it faster just to take the 10 straight in, instead ogoing down to meet up?

there's mongolian bbq, a cheap japanese place w/ sushi rolls, mediterranean, a pita sandwich place...any preferences i should know?

christian370z 11-19-2010 01:13 AM

Sounds good to me too. I am probably bringing my dad which will be interesting since he believes that you shouldn't floor a car, go past 4krpm, or drive enthusiastically. I have shown him some of the videos of our last run and he thought it looks fun but I think the videos make it seem like we were going slower than we really were.

The roads on the route I have mapped out look amazing on Google Earth, wow. Are there any photo op spots to look for as rest points?

phelan 11-19-2010 01:27 AM

There's one really nice one.

I'm going to scout the road again this weekend just to make sure I remember everything correctly.

Taking my daily driver, though haha. But while I'm in the area...as they say, when in rome. right?

zero 11-19-2010 03:18 PM

^ good idea. I might cruise to the GT-R meet at diamond jamboree in Irvien this Sunday morning. It's GT-R and 85 degree coffee meet. There is also a good dim sum there too.

Minor Announcement:

I have posted all the relevant information regarding the time, exact address of the meeting point, and some other stuff in the OP if you need to check it out!

I'll be driving the Z. Diamond Jamboree is a good plaza to hang out. There are good places to eat, morning, noon and night. The roof top parking lot is always empty any time of the day.

christian370z 11-20-2010 03:24 AM

Do you think you might make it to Cars & Coffee along the way? I doubt there will be a decent showing with rain but it looks like you are taking a grand tour of Irvine anyway!

By the way, if you are interested and/or able to attend the Malibu Cruise GMR Edition, please chime in:
