I'm guessing you were moving faster than say... ~5km/h? I Think it is a 'safety' feature designed to stop you getting distracted by the GPS etc. while you're driving.

Seems like I got it mixed up with googlemaps 'directions'. Finally got around to fiddling with the nav/map options, and you're right, there is no avoid tollway option.

Thats what I mean, the option to 'avoid tollway' is there, you can turn it on and off, but it calculates routes with tollways regardless.
