curious, what made you go with the 7D? |

Nikons are definitely sweet and I believe Nikon and Canon to be equal overall. I still have a Nikon F 35mm and it is a tank. The D 7000 is a camera that every raves about. I just went Canon due to lots of brand experience. :tiphat: |

Also, holy chit. This seems too good to be true, but the seller is well known. WTF? Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1 MP Digital SLR Camera | eBay |

I'm not so much worried about having images stolen, I just feel like it cheapens the shots some. I am the same way with music....yet I have no issue doing a cd....I guess I am just weird. |

Random Star Trek shot from my den/office at home.

^^ cool! is that a model you built? :) one of the guys at work is a trekkie(?) trekky(?).
so during lunch i looked at my RC picts i took last night and noticed several areas i want to fix. first is lighting, im going to place one more incandesent light to the right of my camera to give tad more illumination around the front driver side tire, also will remove all items near the shooting area to rid reflection on the car's door and panel (like my synth-keyboard! :icon14:) and will try DOF that will give me closer to 30cm. :) 36mm f/7.1 from about 1m (iso100) - aim near headlamp/taillamp 42mm f/9 from about 1m (iso100) - aim near headlamp/taillamp try this again. :D nono, im not mad. hahaha |

I really need to start shooting in manual mode, and need to take the time to understand aperture/ISO/metering and how it effects my shots.. Auto can only take me so far. Also what program are you using to add lights like that ken? Im just using a trial version of lightroom 3. Maybe i should download CS5 already, co-worker gave me a very nice book to read for CS5! |
I suggest using BOTH LR3 and CS5.
I use LR for color editing, lighting, white balance etc(not to mention going through large catalogs is much easier) and then I use CS5 for sharpening, major editing work etc. That's just me though. |

i use the barebone PS Element9. :D i only use it mainly for minor level adjustment and slight boost in saturation/slight sharpening if needed. most of my images are straight out of my camera.
oh, and re-size. |
Mr.onzedge- please let it rip. Evaluate my performance please, good and bad. :D no editing done other than resize.

Can you choose to shoot raw on your camera?

It is nicely exposed, is interesting, has clear focus throughout and the lighting is good. You are getting better with each post. I am not just kissing your butt, either. Thanks for sharing and for asking my opinion. Keep them coming. My sons are going to the UTI car show Sunday -- it will probably be populated heavily with ricers, but I hear there will be some decent cars there too. Among the decent cars will be Taylor's scary-fast 280zx (one of my old ones) that he built and it is going for some dyno pulls. Although I have a rule (a guideline, actually) that my kids (men) don't get to schedule my time on the weekends, I am going to go and try to get some good shots. |

that picture is actually using 3 incandescent and 2 flouresent (super white) bulbs to get different hue/energy from the blue rug. i also tried all incandescent lamps with the same shot but it came out real bland and flat as if it almost looked like a sephia (sefia?) oldy golden looking picture but exposure too high, no dept no color variation. :icon14: i also tried shining a flash light at objects while the camera was taking the long 25sec or so shot. it's a pretty cool effect. im going to try LED flashlights in the future. im done with the alfa for now. looking forward to your shots from the carshow. hope they have antiques. :p |
I agree the composition of that one was good, ken. If anything...I'd flip the lighting to accent the flag a little bit. Just my personal opinion of framing / composition though, and I'm the rookie here :icon17:

maybe if it was a real simple darker colored flag (or if the flag was smaller?) it wouldn't have had as much impact...(?) also was thinking it would've been cool if i had a small LED light or something shining from the bottom of the tire stack towards the flag. (very limited props i have.... :crying: and the rug kept falling down in the backdrop as it was just folded upwards. :rofl2: ) |
Great work Kenchan, but the rug background makes the scene too "noisy." A neat trick I use for the ground, is to buy a sheet of plexy glass from home depot and place it over a plain white or black surface. It creates a slight reflection & diffuses the shadows really well. I use some plain, non-glossy bond paper for the background or anything that's not "rough" looking. It messes with how people see scale. The exposure is spot on, but the scene looks like it's still a toy. Take a the AutoArt Models website and you'll see what I mean.

^I agree. Carpet makes it too funky for me. Well taken shot though.

i have a 1:18 black M3 i will practice next time around and should look perfect with a slight reflective ground for some sophistication. :p Quote:

^^ awesome picts! i can feel the speed in your shot.
the front end of the boat at the corner of the frame makes it looks like it's going real fast too. |

Thanks guys! I love how you can see the coils in the rooster tails. It is beautiful and sunny out today. We may ride back over for an hour or so. Fingers crossed.
