think my next lens will be the 10-22 for cars and video :D

BeachZTT 08-01-2011 07:07 PM

Love those shots!

Canon 50D or Nikon D50? Both are great bodies!

I still have my D50! Love it. Some of my favorites shots I have ever taken were with that camera. Here is a shot from my 50 with a $139 Sigma lens...

Spec Jay 08-01-2011 07:14 PM

who are you refering to? lol

BeachZTT 08-01-2011 07:19 PM

Sorry, your shots Spec Jay.

Nitex 08-01-2011 07:20 PM

did he mean 50mm fixed lens? Loving mine also. However the canon 55-250 i picked up today is great also! ill keep the 50mm around for awhile as niether of them were very expensive.

BeachZTT 08-01-2011 07:23 PM

I think he did. I got distracted (saw something shiney) and forgot what the hell we were talking about. It was because I was looking at some of my old D50 stuff. Sorry guys! I will catch up!

Spec Jay 08-01-2011 07:25 PM

oh, thanks! I actually have a 7D. I just got it 2 months ago and its my first DSLR so I'm still in a learning curve. I was actually looking at the d7000 at first but it was too much of a pain to relearn nikon controls(more like im lazy) since i had a canon s3is and the UI was somewhat similar. That and my friend has lenses she lets me borrow. im not partial to one brand tho :D

Nick911sc 08-01-2011 07:25 PM

nifty 50 is camera forum slang for the 50mm 1.8 if you were wondering what he was saying haha

Nitex 08-01-2011 07:30 PM

First shot in the other thread is with my 50mm. The rest was with 55-250.

Jay, I went from a Canon F-1 35 mm to the 7D ( I purchased in June). The F-1 was top of the line and now it seems like a toy. The 7D's learning curve both humbles and humiliates. I am getting better though -- not shooting in P or Auto all the time.

Spec Jay 08-01-2011 08:03 PM

redzed: looks like your on the right track. maybe a polarizer and tad more exposure?

Spec Jay 08-01-2011 08:06 PM

Ive never shot in auto(unless to see what it would produce in some pictures for ***** n giggles lol)
Ive gotta say going to some kind of convention and shooting full manual does wonders for learning settings in oddball lighting situations.

Anime EXPO 2011 | Facebook

thats my set from anime expo. ive never had so much fun taking photos!

Absolutely! It will also help you realize/understand how much your eyes compensate for changing light conditions with your knowing.

Nick911sc 08-01-2011 08:11 PM

Great shots jay, I too am a lover of anime but I've never been to any of the conventions :(

From the moment I bought my DSLR I never shot in any mode but manual. At first all my shots were garbage, but it really helped me learn the camera properly.

Haha, been there, done that. :)

That looks like an absolute blast. I am not a big comic fan but I almost traveled to Philly on the week they hosted Comicon. I was looking forward to the photo op but my trip was rescheduled.

Nick911sc 08-01-2011 08:30 PM

I posted in the anime thread but no one responded to me!

I read more manga now a days than I do anime since I don't have as much free time.

Do you read as well?

Spec Jay 08-01-2011 08:32 PM

what anime thread? lol

nah not really. im too lazy to find the manga and get it onto my phone. and while im at home, i dont like straining my arms and neck to read. rather just lay on the couch and watch off my tv haha

Nick911sc 08-01-2011 08:33 PM

They never made an anime out of it..But I think my favorite of all time has to be 20th Century Boys. Please tell me you've at least heard of it. It will change your life if you read it!

manga? damn, my wife has a library (literally). lol... like easily over 2.5K manga's. :icon17: she's really not into anime, although she doesnt mind watching them now and then.

i asked her to move her collection downstairs as i was getting a bit worried about the weight the books were putting on the room right above my garage.

onzedge 08-01-2011 10:19 PM

Hey you guys. Anime? Manga? Hijackers! Let's get the thread back on track. Gee whiz.

:icon18: hahaha, i was thinking about taking a few snaps of my wife's library but found a mess down there... i remember she was re-arranging her books before she had that back injury (unrelated to rearranging books) and since then things have been put on hold.

i think she's going to restart this weekend though. :p

kenchan 08-03-2011 02:58 PM

mr.onzedge- what is a good still-life to take picts of for beginners? fruits and flowers?

i want to work on composition mostly of non-moving things. moving things will come later... no cropping is my goal.

Hello, Mr. Kenchan-san

Everybody does fruit/flowers. Geez, don't do fruit/flowers. I say get some of your model cars, Griot's products and tools together on a table-top and use those to lay with lighting, exposures, etc.

This is just another of my opinions of which, of course, I have none.

phelan 08-03-2011 03:26 PM

I like taking pictures of exotic fruits (mangosteen, passion fruit) to practice. But I have a whole bunch of junk sitting in my garage that I'm probably going to lay out one day and walk around it, snapping photos and looking at how the light affects the composition.

mr.onzedge- :icon18: hahaha at fruits/flowers.

ok, i have plenty of model/RC cars, griots products, and pretty tools. i will work with those props. i guess 3 items per frame would be more than plenty?

i really dont have much artistic skills when it comes to drawings/illustrations/pictures... which is my biggest problem. :ugh2: i use to be a pretty decent artist long time ago (like 20+yrs ago) but i dont have any imagination when it comes to photography...thus the used car salesman pictures. :crying:

Mr. Kenchan -- What did I tell you? Leave the fruit and junk for the neophytes. Nice stuff.

onzedge 08-03-2011 10:13 PM

My new zoom showed up today -- it's a monster.

I had to take the picture with the wife's CoolPix. I hope to get out and about this weekend and shoot some stuff.
