I also like the chicken shot.

 anytime.

lol. It's really not that much work. A breeze once you learn how to work with layers. I use Adobe Photoshop a lot for work, so it gets easier once you get comfortable with what everything does. There's a ton of stuff you can do with Photoshop. I've been using it for over a decade and even now, still learn something new. Even though its an extremely expensive program, its worth every penny to use and learn IMO.

phelan 08-11-2011 01:54 PM

I use Photoshop when I'm building graphics from the ground up, and LR3 for actual photo processing...not that I'm any good with either, but LR3 seems like a more thought out package than PS.

PS, to me, is like taking a sledgehammer to put in a nail. It works...but damn.

Applied a slight lens blur to the background & soft light to darken it a bit. Also adjusted the levels and curves. For the car I air brushed a soft light layer to the underexposed/overexposed areas. The wheels/tires were a bit overexposed and the body was a bit underexposed. I also cleaned up the artifact on the asphalt with the clone tool and adjusted the brightness/contrast.

All I understood was, I made it better.

Post the shot w/ EXIF! I'm in shock that you were hand holding that bridge shot dude.

I too want to see the EXIF. Certainly plausible if you bump the ISO high enough, have a bad-*** camera & really steady hands/fingers. 3 seconds might as well be an hour for a night time hand held shot like that. Even pressing the shutter button ruins a shot.

What's the aperture on the 50? A 1.4 will give you fantastic shots. That 18-55 is junk. Put it away and stick with the 50.

phelan 08-12-2011 12:14 AM

The guy sold his 1.4 -____- I guess I'm in for the SB-700 only. Still hunting for another 50mm 1.4.

Thoughts on the cheaper, more readily available 1.8?

This is a fair evaluation. I consider LR3 my digital dark room. The fastest way to process many images with minor editing.

As soon as I need layers, I am off to PS.

Shots look good. I may take the saturation down just a bit and see how they feel. Just a touch too hard/crisp for me.

onzedge 08-12-2011 09:58 AM

Those photos are excellent. What lens were you using and how much did you manipulate them with software? I like them very much.

Thanks Beach... yeah learning process for me. Some of those are the default levels from EasyHDR, with some very minor tweaking (part of the reason why I love it so much over the other softwares).

How much is Adobe Photoshop and best place to get it???

By the way Beach, thank you for your advice on using the timer for trigger! did WONDERS with reduction of ghosting.

Thanks onzedge! Yeah I am trying to get better... those HDR shots are really peaking my interest and I am into those now. They are essentially "poster" type shots, which I love.

All shots were taken with my Nikon D60, 18-55 lens. The non-HDR shots were taken in auto mode (lazy and too busy with people), the HDR shots were taken at EV -2, -1, 0, 1, and 2, shutter priority mode with tripod of course. You can imagine the people looking at me as I glared at them for getting IN MY SHOTS... lol. Then I rendered the HDR's, some with 3, 4, and 5 shots...depending on which looked better. All rendered and edited with EasyHDR (awesome software...can't beat 55 bucks for it. I still have to learn more how to use it. I just scratched the surface of it.

Not much editing at all... few tweaks here and there, but the settings it gives me for each render is spot on (at least IMO).

Your shots are definately very cool! I did a little bit of HDR stuff in the past but really wasn't happy with the results. I have been planning on (base on your advise and experience) downloading EasyHDR. Just haven't had time. Thanks for the info and inspiration. :tiphat:

You are very welcome. Glad to help!!!

thanks Red, thanks Onzedge... yeah I love HDR. But I must say, I need to work on my composition more. Onzedge, for example, you have awesome composition. I need to think about my shot more... what am I really trying to show???? What distractions should I avoid? etc etc

I'm trying to stray away from subject on-center shots, as those are pretty common... like this earlier version of the pic from previous page.

I didn't spend a lot of time to make these perfect when I shot them since I was with my family, but I have a few pictures from my trip to South Carolina that I wanted to share:

A walkway at University of South Carolina:

FromG2Z 08-15-2011 01:11 PM

Christian, those shots are AMAZING. I love the composition... esp that fishing walkway pic. That is hands down my favorite. Very nice.

kenchan 08-16-2011 10:40 AM

yah, i like that pier shot! very nice. i like how there's like this 3D depth in the pictures.

i havent touched my camera the last few days. been busy working on some other music things. it's good to kind of step away from photography and then re-look at my shots cause it gives me more of a 3rd person view and see what i really like or dont like about my work. :)

will take some shots later on this week of my plastic model cars. :p probably do my senna car first. :D

FromG2Z 08-20-2011 02:56 PM

Well, I finished my vette detailing, so obviously, I HAD to take pics. Thank you for the recommendation on the remote trigger Beach. I had to do remote versus wired, as my D60 didn't have the interface for the wire. Nevertheless, the remote works out GREAT. Photo taking has never been this easy... lol.
