many compare the sharpness to the higher end canon 50mm. Difference being that the 50mm 1.4 from canon has a better bokeh due to the number of blades used in the lens and the construction quality is better. But optically you can't go wrong with the 50mm 1.8 Here are a few photos I had taken with the 50mm when I first got it to give you an idea for sharpness and bokeh ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

phelan i guess it really depends on what you're trying to take a pict of. in my case 85% will be cars, 10% landscape things when i travel, 5% portraits and closeups (my kit lens can do f/3.5 at 18mm..) which is more than enough for me.
if im doing more close ups inside the house i guess i'd opt for something with a large apeture to get a nice dramatic effect with the background blown out...and more lighting(?) |

i think i need to read a primer on crop factor, i always get confused by it.
so far my photography is about 40% cars, 25% conventions, 25% food, and 10% miscellaneous landscapes. i'm not sure how much is going to change (i think cars will go down, food might go up as i'm a huge foodie lol). during AX, spec jay was going nuts over his 50mm prime lens, i'm debating to try that out and see how it goes. one thing i do know, i'm awful at low light shots right now, both of my lenses are rated around f/5.6 Nitex - are those edited shots? they look pretty damn good. ...is everybody here on a canon??

I remember seeing people with Full Frame camera's were able to use the lens without any issues. I think some might have cut off the attached lens hood to clear up any problems. I could be wrong though since there are a few different versions of this lens that might work for FF.

Nice shots!
The first shot of the spider is going to be difficult to get with that lens due to the focusing distance needed. I think some people use adapters to mount the 50mm backwards to use as a macro lens. But if you're into macro I'd go for a legit Macro lens |
