The wheel locks were Nissan made, got em with the car. Waiting on time/date for the meet. Cops have his real name, age, phone number listings, criminal history and home address already, all from his phone number. He's screwed no matter what at this point, even if he doesn't meet. He is using an alias on Craigslist but they got his real name/etc from the phone company provider, lol. They dont think he is the one who nabbed the wheels, just someone peddling the stolen goods (from the thieves who took my rims) trying to make a profit. Either way, they figure that he has the thieves numbers.

Anyone know a 100% accurate way to verify if rims belong to a particular VIN or my car? I heard TPMS sensors had serial numbers but Nissan said they dont. I dont think the rims or tires do. Thoughts?

More to come shortly.

No, but they will most likely question him about where he got them and if they do their job, he will hopefully just fess up.

However, if the TPMS are married to your car, should there not be a way to verify they match your Z?

Although I am pessimistic in regards to the criminal justice system, I hope it works out!

yup like they said above, you can check by putting the wheels back on the car. they are programmed individually to the car. the TPMS sensors have numbers on them but they are just part numbers iirc, not a serial number. the tires however have a s/n on them but they wouldn't be associated with the car

We caught the guy!!!!

He showed up in a truck just like he told the detectives he would, albeit about 20 min late. The police pulled up right away and detained him and then called me to come and check out the wheels. Sure enough, they were the ones that were taken off my car a few days prior, although they apparently dropped one or two of them b/c they had surface scratches on the spokes.

The guy started by saying he bought them two weeks ago from some random guy selling them for $750 at the Varsity so they couldnt be mine. However, the detectives kept pressuring him and asking him about when/where/how much, who this other guy was, etc and he finally caved in. He admitted he got them the day after they were stolen from my car, still claiming it was from some guy at the Varsity for $750.

The guy he said that they got them from was described as a small Asian guy driving a black Nissan Murano. That ring any bells? They have the guy's phone number and are following up with traces and background checks to ID him as well so there should be more on that soon.

Regarding the guy who tried to re-sell the stolen property, the police confiscated the rims (so he is out his $750 he paid) and are questioning him about the other guy now. Insurance is paying for everything and we will be etching a code/marker into the new rims so they can more easily be identified if someone else tries to take them again. We are also writing down the serials from the tires, just in case. Since the old rims were damaged, insurance will be replacing them and the police are returning the damaged rims most likely to evidence for the case.

All in all, a good day!!!

wow.. nice. I've heard stories about police just saying "we can't prove they're your rims so we can't do anything", but this time they took intitiative. I'm happy for you.

I could not technically prove they were my rims which is why I could not take possession of them. However, they got him to admit that he knew that they were probably stolen since the guy sold them for only $750 to him. This makes him accountable for purchasing and subsequently attempting to sell stolen property of a value sufficient for a felony, which in turn is plenty sufficient to confiscating the parts and detaining him.
