Thanks MC, yeah that looks like its ready for upgrading. I am hoping that nissan can release a 280sx/silvia an offer a tuners version for 16-17k that has nothing in it (no A/C, no CD player, no power, no fancy wheels)

If only Nissan thought that way. With our luck, it will be a "Nismo" version that will cost more, lol.

if your making a niche car, then appeal it to a niche crowd. As they would say on top gear, "I want a no nonsense car". I don't need buttons everywhere and lots of computer controlled stuff that can break. Give me the essentials.

EDIT: but you're probably right....

Good lord. The car will have lots of potential for sure. But it's hard to fork the cost for the car itself.

Can't say I didn't see it coming, in fact I told a friend of mine who's really interested in the BRZ to wait to see what pricing was gonna be like, but still- $31K for a NA 200hp car? I'm at 6062' MSL. That car would be absolutely nutless up here, unable to get out of its own way. Interested to see what the aftermarket does to address this lack of testes.

You are absolutely right. This naturally aspirated 2.0 liter will be huffing and puffing up the mountains here.
Again, this car is not designed for high horsepower, but maybe also not designed for high altitude (?)

Yeah. That's right. Import taxes (importing from Japan) and Engine Displacement taxes, among others. If the engine had any larger displacement, it would be even more.

Which version are you planning to buy? Scion or Subaru?

Wow, I won't lie. I'm jealous.

Is Galaxy Blue that Subaru blue you see in the pictures/reviews?

I'm not sure the engine sound matches the interior fit/feel, but I wouldn't doubt the engine's peformance and power delivery will.

The color I most often see in pictures is the World Rally Blue Pearl. The Galaxy blue is a bit darker.

It's a bit strange seeing the Subaru badge on a small, lightweight rear wheel drive sports car.

The blue I was thinking of was the Rally blue...haven't seen Galaxy blue

nuTinmuch 04-17-2012 01:16 PM

It's strange seeing the Subaru badge on something that doesn't look like a tumor. :p

Motor Trend got a 6.4 0-60 and a 14.9 for the quarter with the BRZ not that it really matters. The MX-5 was slightly quicker at 6.3 and 14.8 for the quarter.

I've driven the new MX-5 and didn't for a second wish it had more power. It's fun being able to run it through the gears without having to constantly look down at the speedo for fear of going to jail / losing your license. More power would just mean you could only open it up in little short burst at a time. 1,2,3.. Oh ****! I'm already going over 100...

So seeing as the BRZ sits even lower than the MX-5 it's highly unlikely it will feel too slow. The BRZ like the MX-5 were designed for easily exploitable limits so more power isn't necessary / required. This is one of the reasons why they fitted relatively skinny 215 tires on the BRZ.

Having a whole lot of power / grip is good for producing fast lab times but this is not the best recipe for a fun daily driver. What's the point in having such high limits if they can only be exploited while going balls to the wall around a race track?

A fun daily diver is one that feels "at one" with it's driver doing what you command it to do. A car with really high limits for example can't easily / safely be drifted and ran through its gears without smashing the average 45,55,65 MPG speed limits on public roads.

Cars with easily exploited limits are much more fun / rewarding to drive on a daily bases.. Now if you have a race track in your backyard this may not be so much a factor but for most of us it is.

The point is many folks put entirely too much emphasis on the #'s without understanding the values of a light weight, rear-wheel drive, modest power, and well-tuned chassis.
