Scion Won't Tell First 86 Buyers How Much The FR-S Costs

That was for a contest, people could sign up and if selected (at random), they could put up a $500 deposit and be one of the first 86.
Great idea, but sucks for people who were selected:

So Scion is asking buyers to put $500 down for a car without knowing how much it'll cost, when they can get it, or what options it'll have other than the pre-selected color and transmission.

That's the same thing Scion does for all their cars that aren't on the lot. If you 'order' one, you have to put down a $500 refundable deposit. That's what I had to do back in '06. It wasn't that bad, but then again I had a price already known... so I can see peoples discomfort when it comes to not knowing, but if you've got the ability to put a deposit down without even knowing what it's gonna cost, I'm sure it's not going to break your bank... :ugh2:

Yeah then it would make sense. Like the Aventador being sold out for 18 months as soon as it was revealed.

The taxes alone would cost more than a GTR and a Porsche 911!

where do you live? sales tax on an Aventador would only be around ~40k.... no where near the cost of a 911, or a GTR....

edit: you do have to pay tax on fair market value.. but I haven't found any info on cars and stuff being charged 42%+ taxes..
25% is the highest I have found, which is still alot.. but.. still

Prize winnings are included in the long list of "other" income that the tax law says is taxable. And it's not just limited to cash awards. You've got to pay taxes on the fair market value of any property you win. So get ready to come up with some cash for Uncle Sam to cover that new Corvette the local Chevrolet dealership presented to you as part of its latest promotional contest.

Quote:

Depending on your other income and the amount of your winnings, your federal tax bracket can go as high as 39.6%. Your lottery winnings might also be subject to state income tax. So depending on where you live, your total tax bill could exceed 50%. You don't get any capital gains rate break for lottery winnings, nor is there any income averaging to help lower your tax bill.

If you win more than $5,000 in the lottery, 28% must be withheld from your winnings for federal income tax purposes. You can do a google search 'taxes on lottery' to get more info specific to your situation.

Now you go and start pulling up facts...making me look bad :superghey:

Nah

Quote:

As of 2008, the highest tax bracket starts at $357,700 and is 35%. When you start adding in state and local taxes, you could very well get close to 50%. If the prize is smaller, you probably won’t be taxed at 50%.
Prize Winnings Tax

Quote:

The suggested retail price is €255,000 in Europe, £201,900 in the UK and $379,700 in the U.S

the last quote was from wikipedia....under aventador

so federal taxes alone would be around 135 grand. so with state taxes i could see getting a gtr and a 911 depending on the state.

yea, assuming they charge you that much, they don't HAVE to.. PLUS, its based off the fair market value, which, you can, dictate as, what is worth to YOU.. you just have to justify why you feel it is the price you say it is..
if you have 5 cars, like moi, you could justify that it's only really worth 20k to you, because it's not needed.... you would be hard pressed, but you could in theory, get away with it:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

You could also declare yourself "sovereign of states"

Do we know the same federal government? the one i know takes everything they can get.

My buddy won a challenger, the big one, the srt8 in a contest. Well at first the IRS tried to tax the car at 70 grand! He had to get an attourney to settle that one.

....But i think the main issue here is Aventadors are sexy! And so are GTRs and 911s!

That episode is really a bad example of what sovereignty of states actually is.

You basically declare yourself free of paying taxes. and i know people who have gotten away with it for 10 plus years before one slight mistake in the paperwork, or change in legislation and then prison. Its all red tape. but enough red tape that they will eventually hang you with it.

When I was working for ford, their was a guy who had done everything perfectly for 16 years without paying income tax. they came and got him because of an earmark on an bill regarding bridges. Sh1t is fvcked. but it is possible.

Uncle Sam frowns upon a lot things. However, the ONE thing he really won't stand for is cheating him out of his $$$.
