Back seats apper to be an after thought. I would rip them out the day i took it home if i bought one.

I'm trying to figure out why I'd buy this over an RX-8. Looks? Gas Mileage? I can't think of anything else unless they drop in a turbo.

As a protest against Mazda's annoying, way over-played, retire-it-already, "zoom zoom" slogan?

Probably because the engine won't require you to pour in a gallon of oil every seventeen miles.

Also, it isn't a hideous recreation of a car that came before it.

Can You Fit In A Subaru BRZ?

Hopefully new FT-86/BRZ owners don't find the back end of an RX-8 hideous...cause that's the part they will usually be seeing. :D

What makes you think this? The car makes slightly more power, but it makes it in a pretty inefficient manner. It's also heavier.

I see it as a pretty close race, but I expect the Toyota to have better balance, especially considering the praise early drivers are tossing on it.

No one ever bitched about an RX8's handling, it's superb. As far as straightline acceleration, I was 1/2 joking. The RX8 will be a just a tiny bit quicker. I've seen reviews that put it at low 6's 0-60 and 1/4 mile at 14.5. This is close enough to be a driver's race. My main point is, other than looks, this car almost IS an RX8, just with a lot "new car buzz". Nobody's raving about the performance window of an RX8 and this car almost exactly matches it. I'd wait for a turbo model before I'd be interested.

the difference is the modding upside and reliability the rx8 lacks.

RX8 has average reliability and several turbo options, same as almost any other sports car. Won't know anything about this car till probably 2 years down the road. I'm still not seeing much difference besides "looks". :D

The renesis did not boost well at all(many people considered 330rwhp a success), and there were tons of reliability issues.

To this end: Oil injectors that don't sufficiently cover the critical parts (or overlube, 09+), inconsistent oil metering, apex seal temps, clogging fuel pump, etc.
And these are just stock issues.

Saying we wont know anything about the car until 2 years down the road is probably not accurate. The fa20 isn't a dramatic departure from anything in the past(and appears to simply be a stroked fa16). Besides the factory support, Subaru actually has aftermarket enthusiasts....

The black edition looks pretty intense

Reliability has almost the exact same history as the 370Z according to J. D. Powers. I think optimism has run amuck here! A 2012 small sports car that has virtually the same performance envelope of a 2004 small sports car for virtually the same price? Not that impressed...it's, however, very pretty. :D This is akin to bringing out a 370Z with the same performance window as the 350Z and calling it a success! I do have faith that subaru will turbo theirs and at that point, it will be worth looking at.

Color me unimpressed about 370z reliability :icon17:

You are right that you could buy a better car in 04. Hell, you could buy a better car in 99....you just have the wrong car in mind.

I'm calling them a virual tie at the same price. If you want sportscar reliability, think Mazda Miata. Why the doors alone guarantee that you will never have to ....fill in blank here....! :D

kenchan 01-13-2012 12:47 PM

hummm... that toyota one's exhaust tips are mounted to the bumper...(?) :icon14:

TerribleONE 01-13-2012 12:52 PM

the black edition is sick.... doubt itll actually hit the showrooms like that though.

FL 4Motion 01-13-2012 01:44 PM

sh!t, I'm just gonna go ahead and admit that this car is really starting to grow on me. BUT, I won't consider it unless it'd be a TRD or STI edition (ie. FI'd).

Would go nicely in the garage next to the nismo. :)

Rooster89 01-13-2012 01:48 PM

Bottom line is going to be good. I think these things are going to sell like sausages.

not everybody likes sausages, but everybody likes power, add FI, and these cars will sell like hotcakes.

the rear of the subaru looks like a snubbed nose evo front.

The TRD front end looks like a baby LF-A. I'm liking this.

So it will look like the Amuse rear end. :ugh2:

Still love the Subary WRX Pearl Blue though. The color selection on the FR-S is ehh based on the computer images. I'll reserve judgement until I see/drive one in person.

Lies, everyone loves sausages. either way though, they will blow sales away. its going to be like a civic si in 2001 when fast and furious came out.

Now the trd is s/c and the sti is turboed? thats what i keep hearing...:ugh2:

No real info yet.
TRD might offer a SC aftermarket and the STi version right now does not have a turbo. :( Though what we do know is Subaru has said a turbo motor is being put into a production car for the 2013 year, not the 86 though.

IF fi were to happen for these cars thru the oem, then, yes, that seems to be the consensus on how it would go.

Rooster89 01-13-2012 11:56 PM

Im prolly gonna have to test drive these cars. if for no other reason than all the hype. but it is kinda the return to the cheap sports car from japan.

I predict many 'spoiled kid crashes brz/frs/ft86' youtube videos in the future...

takjak2 01-17-2012 12:17 AM

Looks like there's enough demand to sell them without even listing a price :D
