And what makes Nissan(Datsuns) any different? You really want to bring up history? I was around long enough to remember Datsun's and their not so enthusiastic reception by the general public.

By bringing up a companys past as the basis for judgement, you've just cemented the fact that, yes indeed you are a brand snob and not a true auto enthusiast. A true auto enthusiast would look at the car (the product) itself and not the special decoration behind it done by the marketing folks.

An good analogy is with a girl who you do have an interest in but is afraid to approach due to the not-so-good rumors you've been hearing about her. Your the type who would believe these rumors and not even talk to her. Find out for yourself, firsthand, and THEN judge. Seperate the girl from the rumors is basically what I'm saying. Same thing with the Genesis; seperate the car from the marketing or companys past history.

Oh for the record, I drive a 1998 Nissan Maxima. Yes, I have a family.

I've driven the Genesis. Its okay. It may be cross shopped, but it doesn't compare with the Z, as it shouldn't, for the price difference, and many years under the belt with VQ's.

Why does everyone get so bent out of shape that Z enthusiasts don't like the Genesis. It kind of inevitable on an enthusiast site.

Do you go on Ford forums, complaining about all the Chevy bitching?

For the record. Nissan/Datsun has a much better past than Hyundai would ever dream of having. With the Z history, and Skyline, and many other cars like the B210, and so on, Datsun was a great company.

Hyundai was a crappy one from the start, with the Hyundai Excel. You don't see a single one on the road anymore, but you see a ton of even older Datsuns or Nissans. That should tell ya something.

Either way, Hyundai as of today, is very good, at I hate to say it, better than some other companies including Nissan/Toyota in build quality. Look at the Genesis Sedan. That goes against the GS350/450. For the money, that car is NICE!

The Genesis mainly goes against the G37 Coupe. The Z is a full sports car, 2 seater only.

Well if you remember since your old enough the z was a reasonably price sport scar I have owned a 74 260z, 90 300zx, currently own a 70 240z for the past 25 years and my new 370z. I was a Mechanic for 25 years I like and dislike some brands like Daewood, Kia,Hyudai they are made cheaply I think you would agree.The Hyundai sports car heritage is where they have no sports car heritage like the Datsun Z line from what it has evolved to now it's still a sports car and it's not going to be breaking down, reliability is the image of Datsun and now Nissan as well Toyota's. You don't have to agree with me but to label someone who's opinion is different is wrong. I don't appreciate it if you had posted like I have I would've pointed the facts of the car to change the image, but to call people names is wrong and with that go buy yourself a 4 door hyundai and leave the nissan family your not worthy. As someone who's had first-hand experience with Hyundai past and present, here's my take:

I had a cousin that bought an '87 Excel. It had an engine fire and was toast. At this point they were not a car I would ever consider.

I test drove a Hyundai Tiburon when they first came out, around 1998. I though the car reeked of utter cheapness - the doors had a tinny sound when shut, not a sold thunk. The CD player slot was barely thicker than a CD and looked like it would eat them. Plastic on the inside was awful, hard and cheap. Needless to say, I didn't buy it, and still wouldn't consider them a 'quality automaker.'

Fast forward to 10 years later, I was in California for work for a year, and had a long-term rental. I had just returned my first long-term, which was a 2007 Pontiac G6 Sedan. If you want to have a long discussion about pieces of crap, I could probably write a novel about this car. My only choice was another G6 or a Hyundai Sonata. Knowing I had likely hit rock bottom with the G6, I opted for the Sonata. I was really impressed with the car. I jokingly called it the Hyundai Accord, since it looked like last gen's Accord sedan. The car handled very well and felt like it was built well. They had a lot of little nicities in the cabin that I thought, "Wow, what a nice idea," like the USB-in on the stereo, that allowed me to play MP3's right from the stereo without having to fiddle with the Archos. If I were looking for a family 4-door sedan, I would consider the Sonata. Sure, the styling is bland, but I think they are built pretty well.

I briefly looked at the Genesis, but ended up with the 370Z. The Genesis is a cool car for the money, but is not as sharp as the Z, in my opinion. However, if I couldn't afford the 370Z, I think I would consider it.

I'll say that I think Hyundai has really come a long way. They are finally at the point where they are learning how to manufacture a reliable and well-built car. They can do it for cheaper than the Japanese because they borrowed styling from Toyota, Honda, etc., and don't spend a lot on styling and r&d. Now that they have proven to be successful, I think they are starting to branch out and soon you may see Hyundai develop its own design. Granted, they do not have the reputation of Nissan, but they do not have the history either - 25 years ago they did not exist in the U.S. Market.
