Project Bluebird: 2014 Metallic Peacock Nissan Note

ok well first off i know i'm copying from Waizz's thread, but seemed the best way to start off this type of thread :D anyways little background on the car: as some of you may or may not know i previously owned a Monterey Blue 370Z, but due to circumstances she is now in the big junkyard in the sky, had my heart set on another 370Z, but didn't work out in my favor..at least not for the time being, so after thinking about it and seeing how beautifully waizz's project came together and how much he liked his Fit i decided to try what in all honesty is Nissans attempt at going after the honda fit and to my surprise Nissan actually did a fairly decent job of putting together a car that was in a class i like to call "slow car that's fun to drive fast". In any case as time permits and as i come across aftermarket parts that will work with the Note i will be updating this thread periodically, so far though i have already had Injen do some R&D on the car and actually was impressed with what they were able to do....with just an intake they were able to achieve an approximate 8whp increase in HP and about the same for torque and after driving a few hundred miles to let the ECU recalibrate itself i have to say i am enjoying the car even more now. Anyways on to the pics.

As the car sits now (sorry waizz had to steal the pic from you) :D :

you mean a slow car that's fun to drive fast in slow motion... lol :icon17:

speedfreek 09-23-2013 12:21 PM

See I liked Waizz's Fit so much I bought one just like it for my DD. The new notes definitely look alot better than their predecessor. It will be interesting to see what you do with it.

Yeah it looks like the Leaf and Fit got into it and this is their child.

Can't wait to see what you turn it into. The most important question cvt or rowing your own?

I know it's heresy around here to say it but I opted for the cvt as you can only get the upscale features with the cvt such as the fog lights and heated seats and such but surprisingly this second generation cvt that nissan developed is much more responsive than the one I remember in the altima rental I had for a week...I think the main factor in that is the new set of planetary gears they put in this new generation cvt

zealot- sorry, i cant watch youtube at work...

btw, where are these Note's made? :) my 09 FitSport is getting kinda old and planning to replace the car next year. i want to get my wife the new accord sedan , but she wants a hatch again. And the '14 Fits are going to be made in mexico (currently made in Japan) so im not sure i want to buy the first model year... :ugh:

the only other choice is the impreza hatch (i think the '14-'15's are made in japan), but subaru dealers in my area have been a pita. :ugh: wife can't drive MT so cvt is fine.

sorry to tell you, but Nissan followed the same path as Honda when it came to where the car is assembled...all drivetrain components are still made in Japan for the Note, but the rest of the car is assembled in aguascalientes mexico. that aside i have over 5000 miles on the car now with not a single problem and no rattles, very solid build quality considering where the car is assembled. also i think Nissan in mexico uses a different paint mix as in that same 5000 miles i have yet to see one chip in the paint on this car compared with my Z which suffered paint chips within the first few weeks of ownership.

sounds good!

huh, my z only has 3-4 chips over the course of 4yrs ownership, so im not too worried about the paint. :D will clearbra the front bumper on all future cars i buy anyway.

lol, well i figure since most people mistake the color for blue for some reason i would run with it, come to think of it though it does have a blue hue to the color when the light hits it the right way and since its light weight and agile like a bird the rest just came together for some reason :D

Z_ealot 09-25-2013 08:12 PM

Not the same color as my Note, but this is the direction im planning on going with my Note but with better rims of course :) the only bad thing is there is yet to be any access at any dealers to the JDM parts catalogues for the Note :(

Here is another pic for you Mike :)

Wow, the intake sounds really, really good!

Digging the sideskirts in the white car, that would look really good with your Type-C's that you have planned

Any change in MPG? I just have the drop-in K&N filter and I might have to think about getting a real intake after how good yours sounds

thanks again for the pics wais, and yes as a matter of fact there has been a change in MPG, along with a gain of around 8whp i now average around 2mpg better than with the stock intake so am now consistently getting around 43 to 44mpg on the highway :D and now looking at the color of the car in your latest pic i can now say i chose the right name lol...i had no idea how blue the car looks in certain light until this pic :bowrofl:

Damn! you lucky SOB that is fantastic to get that kind of MPG's. That is Prius level mpg's but your car will be wayy cooler.

Your car is definitely a blue/green combo depending on the light. I think it's pretty cool and would look great with a nice set of black wheels ;)

Z_ealot 09-28-2013 04:55 PM

My car has been submitted to Tanabe for consideration thanks to some friendly advice from Mr. Wais, hopefully my car is the front runner lol

kenchan 10-02-2013 02:03 PM

every time i look at the thread title im thinking altima/stanza. :icon17:

Z_ealot 10-02-2013 02:27 PM

Lol I thought about that too kenchan but I ran with it anyway...oh and also some new information...I have been put on the list of r&d cars at tanabe :)

kenchan 10-02-2013 02:35 PM

nice! hope you get free springs and that tanabe touring muffler. i have the muffler on my '12. sounds good.

not obnoxious, looks a tad more exciting than stock, no fart can look.

Exactly what I was going for but we shall see that's what I like about wais exhaust was that it was pretty tame unless you got on it pretty good oh and also received the dyno plots back from injen. Turns out this engine may be underrated as the stock baseline was at around 90hp...adding in the intake brought it up to 97hp at peak which is actually pretty good for a car of this weight and size.I will upload dyno shots after I get home from work though

sidenote: was planning to get tint done this weekend, but had a few financial decisions come up that were more important so tint is on hold for 2 weeks :(

Waiz 10-02-2013 08:34 PM

That's a great jump in hp from your intake

Given your CVT and the fact that you're down nearly 27 hp from the Fit your MPG difference to the Fit now makes sense

isnt the 2009 and above fit sport rated at 117hp vs. the Note's 109hp? from what i've been able to dig up it seems like the actual whp from the fit and the note arent much different and are both very efficient at getting the power to the ground. the stock dyno plots i've been able to find for the fit show it at around 98 to 100whp vs. the Notes 93/94hp baseline pull, pretty awesome for both considering their rated crank HP is not much higher than that :D does anyone know if there's any gains from throwing an axle back exhaust on the fit?

the thing about the Fit for me is that mine is a 5MT and can accelerate to 60 under 8sec. that's plenty quick for a eco-hatch. my obc shows 30.6mpg on short surface roads trips with my spirited driving, so that's plenty for me. when i did a road trip it was up to 37mpg, nowhere near your 44+mpg, but im okay with it.

for me, i prefer the quickness vs squeezing out mpg. i really dont care about gas consumption at this level as it's regular gas and it doesn't cost that much to begin with. however, i would prefer the car had a larger tank so i dont have to fill as often.

I feel the same way Ken and I know I'll be limited by the cvt but I feel this engine seems like it was very limited from the factory as far as being able to breathe so at some point I hope someone comes up with a exhaust header for this engine but im happy just being at stock Honda fit levels right now lol

you're also at the impreza hatch CVT level as well as far as acceleration. mid-9 sec.'s which is plenty per my wife. :)

Waiz 10-04-2013 12:22 AM

Brother has a Impreza Hatch that I drove for about a month, Fit is way more fun

I have to give a big +1 to Ken's comment about sacrificing the MPG's for the Fit's performance. Even with 4 people I never feel like the Fit is under-powered

Looking forward to checking out and taking pics of that Intake on Saturday Mike ;)

^^They came out awesome wais, thanks so much for the photo op :D now to just get it in to Tanabe! Also after looking at the color of the wheels when contrasted to the rest of the car i think im going to go with your suggestion of a darker color wheel, something along the lines of gunmetal or anthracite color from SSR...kinda sucks though cause i actually found a set of SSR type C's in anthracite color in fountain valley that are going for a grand with tires, but no cash for them right now :(
