I try to keep an open mind about all cars/brands. My daughter drives a Mustang, my son drives a Dodge 1500, my other son a 528i, my wife a Veloster Turbo and I have an MKX for DD...
What it all boils down to is whether or not the vehicle meets the needs of the driver and whether that vehicle is a good value. This includes warranty, style, performance, quality, reliability and everything else factored in. I will consider every possible vehicle when buying a new car, and narrow it down based on my previous stated needs, desires, etc. In the end, I bought the Hyundai based on features, quality, performance, price, economy and style. I am very satisfied with the purchase and have nothing bad to say about the brand so far. For a fully loaded car that rivals others that cost thousands more, I believe I got a great value for my dollar. :twocents: |

First you have to compare the right two models, as you did. Then do the pricing math... and for shyts and giggles throw in the 2.0 turbo rspec pricing which is like $26k'ish? then factor 10kdeficit from Z pricing and convert it to turbo mods on a pre-plumbed F.I. motor??? I mean, there's potential in these cars for tuners, in spite of... (just playing devils advocate) That 2.0 may be a threat to automotive society in the right mechanics hands???:stirthepot: |

I'm just nervous about all this sketchy Z info. Everytime magazines mention the Z and BRZ in the same breath when it comes to nissans next generation iteration. People say on paper numbers are garbage but I will challenge this theory of on paper stats meaning nothing. The Z gained praise in 09 for having identical on paper stats as the Porsche Cayman S while beating it in overall grip. The Cayman S @ the time was a 13.3 second quarter mile car that averaged .94g on the skidpad. The Z pushed 13.1 (with automatic with .99g on the skidpad. On paper... this car was considered a Porsche fighter. The Z is far from the fastest car on the road but a driver capable enough can show a real competitive edge on paper. If the "SO CALLED" extremely fun and "BEST OVERALL SPORTS CAR" in the world is a FRS/BRZ. And all of a sudden, these are the stats to beat???? The Z's new on paper quota to beat is 16 second quarters and .93g on the skidpad. I would call that 2 steps forward and 4 steps back. If we make the BRZ our competitor? And Hyundai makes the BMW 3 series the competitor. We go from Porsche to subaru while Hyundai goes from infiniti to BMW. As it stands the gencoupe 2.0 CREAMS a BRZ on a roadcoarse. Now I don't see either of these cars as any real Z competitors. But when people in mags talk on types of cars tfor Nissan to beat or battle. That gets me nervous cuz as of now... NISSAN HAS THESE CARS BEAT BY A MILE... My biggest Z fear is a Nissan downgrade while these little guys upgrade. Hmmm? One to ponder. I hope all this Bullshyt BRZ hype doesn't make nissan feel the need to downgrade the Z??? Remember, Mr K back in 2010 compained of the Z being to heavy. And power being too much of the focus. Mr K didn't like the Z34. Sadly I do. The 2014 Porsche Cayman S with Sport Chrono package is the car to beat. 12.6 quarter mile. That number to me means something. The BRZ 15.9 seconds means as much to me as used toilet paper. While I know sports cars aren't defined by speed. Speed and handling is my personal preference. I love fast cars that handle awesome. Sorry if I broke sports car law??? But the Z is a perfect combo of the above. (Though a little to front heavy) |
Hopefully if Nissan does "downsize", it will be lighter with a 300hp turbo engine! Thats just dreaming though lol.
Funny story, I actually drove my fiances Genesis to help out a buddy last night whos 370 suffered from the steering lock failure. Luckily we were able to tap on it and get it started to pull the fuse. Anyway, back on topic!: From my little drive last night, it refreshed me on how the car drives. The steering is a little sloppy. Not quite as direct or precise as the Z. The transmission feels almost lifeless when you shift the gears. Like the gear shifter is stuck in a tub of butter. I like that you can feel the vibrations in the shift knob and the clunkiness in the Z. The gas pedal also has a slight delay in it, same as the Z (I hate that). It handles fine enough for me but its lowered on coilovers. Its still not bad however. I could drive it as a daily. The interior is a little cheap but it doesnt bother me. |
I respect the GenCoupe, but I'd still take a new G37s over it any day of the week and twice on Thursday.
Personal opinion, of course, but the G is one of my favorite cars out there. Sporty, responsive, refined, luxurious, comfortable, beautiful. |

the g37s in my honest opinion isnt a good track car, its a nice street car though the 370z is an excellent track car and a really good street car, and the nismo 370z is even better but i feel paper stats are only there when it benefits people, and they help when making comparisons between cars(aka argue which car is better) but it doesnt do anymore then that |

But when it comes to car companies meeting a performance goal. Those on paper stats mean a lot before you purchase. To me, the on paper stats help me determine if the car is worth spending the money. I'm pretty sure the on paper stats of a stock mustang 5.0 having the capability of pulling a 12.6 second quarter mile with a foot of roll out sold a crap load of them. Yet on drag tracks, most STOCK 5.0's I've seen get 12.9/13.2 range. On paper stats sell cars. |
That's because they are such a PITA to launch. :icon17:
They are fully capable of 12.6-12.7 stock. I managed a 12.8 but was still giving up some on my 60'. That's on the driver, though. :shakes head: |

I do agree stats are generally meaningless. What you feel in your butt when you drive the thing is what matters most.

And some cars massage your azz. :driving:

Let me see Hyundai is releasing a sports coupe that competes performance wise with big heavy German base model sedans? That's an accomplishment? Hmm wonder if new Hyundai will have aluminum frame, aluminum suspension, aluminum body panels by 2015? Lol!
Want to see an accomplishment? Watch for new c7 Vette. |
if GM can make the vette's interior nice, that alone would be an accomplishment.
back to hyundai |

Even speed is overrated if you're not enjoying yourself. Fastest does not always mean funnest, and most owners of performance cars won't track their cars, let alone push those limits on public streets (which is not where they should be tested anyway). |

Most don't think a LOADED BRZ is worth $30k. But @ 25k it would be better priced. Do you think its because its on paper stats don't add up to other $30k cars or... Because it's not fun enough to drive @ the 30k price point. Reviewers say its the most fun car since the porsche 911. I think most don't like the $30k price based on comparable cars in the price range. Those comparos come from on paper stats... Sorry but its true. |

If all you care about is stats, you're limiting yourself. |
It's kinda like meeting a new girl (if I remember correctly! lol)....
It either hits you and you have to have it... or it doesn't. The Z hit me as a 'must have' immediately. I love the perfections and the flaws = true love! lol |

You will avoid answering that question because it negates your futile argument. It would be unrealistic to buy a BRZ when theres a corvette that may not hailed as being as fun as a BRZ... BUT WE KNOW, from what we read. We would find the corvette waaaaay more fun. and stats play a role... I wouldn't pay $60k for the hype of BRZ fun based on the cars inability to perform on paper and against anything in the $60k range stats not all i care about.........But you're missing the point of the importance of stats....................... The point is, stats will determine what you are willing to shell out for a sports car. If stats were everything? I'd be in a mustang GT or 302 BOSS... Don't you think? Dollar for dollar the mustang offers more, but i prefer the Z in terms of fun. But the Z is much more engineered than a mustang. So I see why the inferior performing Z can be worth the same as a more powerful mustang. Would you pay $43k for a miata? Miatas are fun. Back on topic now.... |
Quote:
I'd buy a Lotus Elise, and they're Vette money for half the stats. And BRZ/FRS are selling quite well in spite of your argument. I didn't avoid your question. A 43,000 dollar Miata doesn't exist, but performance alone isn't the reason. The car isn't worth that much. It's not all paper stats. It's also plastic materials, versatility, lack of gadgetry. You're terrible to argue with, because you can never cede a single point. Do people pay vette money for Z's? Ask anyone with a fully loaded roadster or Nismo, I guess. With incentives, they could have afforded a base vette, if it was all about stats. And you bring up the boss mustang, which supports my argument. That car is much faster than a Nismo Z on paper and costs the same. If the BRZ was nice enough, people would pay 60. But it's not. It's a Subaru with a plastic interior. But yes, let's get back to the topic of the Hyundai, which has nice paper stats, although I'd still want an Infiniti G37s. |

And your arguement is invalid. Fun doesnt = price. My versa is hella fun. but i wouldnt have paid more than 15k for it new. Which is why despite the fun the BRZ is still over priced at 25k. And its not because of stats on paper, its because of how it feels when i have to drive it everyday. The reviewers etc who love that car all do so because they have open roads and tracks.. tell someone in a city to review it and see the difference. And yes that matters because despite what we all like to believe, we dont live on race tracks. |

Coming from a G37s, id rather have one too. But it doesnt mean the hyundai doesn't meet what i condier a competitive criteria for its price range. considering a Rspec 3.8 is 29k and a G37s is $47k you are paying greatly for your preferences. that being said, theres not much more performance for an 18k deficit in a G. At least not $18k worth |

First I'm gonna start by saying I didn't read all the pages so I sorry if my thoughts were already discussed.
The Gencoups target was the g coup. It did very well to hit that target. The biggest mistake they made was not designing it to fit the sedan's V8. That would have made an interesting GT or limited available car. |

No one cross shops a g37 and that Hyundai. People who look at g37 is aiming at luxury and probably is looking at the 3 series coupe, a5 coupe, c class coupe. |
Quote:
strange. I must not exist. in that case.. bye bye all. |

I did...but I also cross shopped them with the GTI and 370z..so I must be CrAzY!! |

Yeh that works. |

gTi 370z g37 335 135 g8 gt corvette cross shopped them all. Your just being ignorant. |

No need to attack me personally. Relax bro, just conversation. |
The Gen Coup and G37 may not always cross shopped but it all depends on where your high and low limits are when concerning price.
When I got my Z the Gen Coup was the low end in price while the G37 was the high end. I also looked at the 2010 mustang and 2009 Camaro. |
