I'm sure you can run 11seconds with 20k in mods.... Then watch your Z's engine fall into pieces after a couple of runs... You better consider sheathing and forging among some other reinforcement mods which is quite expensive when done right. The key is to have a fast car that runs EFFICIENTLY and as RELIABLY as possible, not just a fast car.

I'm not high... I been researchin' this shyt.

That FRS/BRZ running low 11's is on the stock block. 20lbs of boost is a lot considering that it's still a relatively new engine design with a lot of unknowns. I totally agree. It's not worth going FI if the engine needs to be rebuilt down the road in 10k miles or less.

Yes but don't forget 30 pounds of boost is hardly anything depending on the turbo, according to some around here.

Improper turbo knowledge may cause irritability, light headedness, irregular bowels, and in rare cases, suicidal thoughts. Check with your flow chart to see if 30lbs is right for you.

Improper turbo/supercharger knowledge may cause you to look like a PSI fanboy/:nutswinger:, which in turn causes some of us to realize that you are providing no actually valuable imput to this thread.... Dont you drive something that comes factory with FI? How do you not even know the theory about your own car, N/M, (insert F&F joke) Wow! You can read the brochure! All superchargers/turbochargers are not created equal last I remember, unless something as happened in the last 24hrs?

Sorry to be harsh, but it is not wise to poke fun unless you have subject matter knowledge to back it up, but then again what do I know right.

Just some gee whiz for ya but a factory EvoX hits right around 21-22psi before tapering back down to 15ish. I wonder if you are going to have to rebuild that motor every 10k?

Japanjay 09-15-2012 01:03 AM

Setting: Iceagetlc is wrapping up the purchase of a new GT500 at the dealership

Dealer: So here are the keys to your new GT500

Iceagetlc: Is there anything I need to know about the car?

Dealer: There is no need to know how your car works now-a-days, you see that is what the brochure that is in the window of the car is for.

Iceagetlc: Oh ok then. Do I need to read it all?

Dealer: If you want to be the parkinng lot princess at your local hangout then YES, you must memorize it!

Iceagetlc: (runs out to car to begin memorizing)

Fastforward several days and we see Iceagetlc pulling into his local mustang tuner shop:

Mechanic: What can I help you with?

Iceagetlc: I want my brand new GT500 to go faster and make louder VROOOM VROOOOM noises!

Mechanic: Do you have anything in mind parts wise?

Iceagetlc: Dealer told me I didnt need to know how my car works, so that is why I told you I want it to go faster and make very loud VROOOM VROOOM noises, know what I mean?

Mechanic: I think I can do that. Leave your credit card and your car will be ready when I call you.

Fastforward a few more days and we see Iceagetlc showing back up at the tuner:

Iceagetlc: So is it finished?

Mechanic: Yes.

Iceagetlc: (pulls out note pad to reveal wo questions with check boxs drawn next to them) First question, does it go faster?

Mecahnic: Yes

Iceagetlc: (makes a check in drawn box next to first question) Second, does it make ver loud VROOOOM VROOOOM noises?

Mechanic: Yes

Iceagetlc: (Makes check in second box then slides notepad over to mechanic along with pen) : Now I need you to list off everything you did and makes sure you spell it correctly so when I put it in my signature on everycar forum that I plan on registering with, even if it has nothing to do with GT500's, people actually think I know what I am talking about.

Mechanic: (writes it all down word for word and slides notepad back over along with pen) Here ya go and here is the key.

Iceagetlc: (snatches key and notepad and runs out the door screaming like a school girl)

/End story

You really have no idea wtf you are talking about. I like how you think if you built your motor and "clutch pack", your STS kit would make 1000hp.

Don't forget that it's twin charged.

98intrigue 11-20-2012 09:57 PM

Haha, look up Joe Falbo and you'll find his slow YouTube videos. "451whp soon to be 600+" my ***. Ok, I'm done.

Back to talking about a fast, stock block FRS.

cv129 11-20-2012 10:22 PM

Guys, frs/brz is a very well engineered car, perhaps better than the z imo, in stock form and in terms of mod friendly. Heck, toyotabaru made this car so it can carry 4 spare tires for track days.

Fundamentally speaking, in terms of visibility and weight, both very important for sports driving, frs/brz wins by a mile. Z is great, but the toyotabaru is just more purpose built in that way.

Whether the op is stirring the pot or not, fact is we aren't gonna win the mod friendliness battle, the more we try to defend our car, the more we look like condescending axxholes.

binary0x01 11-20-2012 10:28 PM

Nothing against the FRS, I would take the Z over it any day. What can I say, I really like my car, as I'm sure the FRS/BRZ folks like theirs.

I can fit 4 tires in my Civic, doesn't make it a great track car. The brz/frs is a good car, but not any more "mod friendly" than the Z or any other sports car for that matter. It's the same old recycled mods with minimal gains until you start messing with forced induction. The frs/brz's purpose is to be an affordable sports car...not the perfect sports car.

:iagree: At the price it's at right now, it's even failing at that IMO. When the excitement dies down a little and they stop marking them up, then it will be a better value.

Get off your high horse, man. Jesus was commissioned to design the LS1 engine years ago. He went into hiatus after it was completed and finally Toyobaru were able to convince him to come and design a car for them: The FT86. It's so good even Tim Tebow drives one.

It was designed so that there was enough room for you to Tebow inside of it.

I really do like the FT86 platform, though. I just wish it was cheaper. I would consider one for a daily driver, but I just wish it had moar powar stock.

I'm thinking it will make more sense once we start seeing more of them for sale used. I just hope people don't beat on them too much like they tend to do with something like a 240sx or RX-8 (FD). I wouldn't mind driving an FT86 as a daily, even with the lack of power/torque.

m4a1mustang 11-21-2012 09:19 AM

Yeah I wouldn't mind one at all for a DD even with stock power. Just enough to keep it fun.

b1adesofcha0s 11-21-2012 09:23 AM

If you could pick up a used one in a couple years for under $20k and put a turbo kit on it, that would make a nice DD/track car :yum:
