My jaw nearly hit the floor. Knowing his folks, he is not BS-ing. I know he can not drive a manual, so we looked up Ford will soon be making a Shelby automatic, for this type of buyer.

Who thinks this is a good idea?
Brilliant idea (/sarcasm for those that can't read internet) If he's mega rich and spoiled, I'm sure daddy/mommy won't mind paying the speeding tickets, bail, and worse case scenario, funeral costs (not trying to be funny with this last one).

IF he's conservative in his driving habits, it shouldn't be a problem. Just because he's well off and pampered doesn't mean he'll wrap his car around a tree.

If I was rich and had a kid I'd buy him a GT500 for his 16th birthday. I'd get a pulley for it so it's making 700whp.

Then I'd slap the valet tune on it and give the keys to him.

Such a good idea. But you would care about your kid. That is the difference.

I'd also not be as reluctant to buy a shelby for a kid if the United States had more thorough and challenging driving tests. Teaching a kid a 3-pt turn is important, but the Finnish teach them to flick and hydroplane.

GT500 limited to 2,500 rpm.

Still plenty of power for street driving, but not enough to allow him to race or show off. Trollololol

Get good grades and I'll give ya an extra 500rpm, Billy!

I wouldn't do it as a first car. I'd start him off with something much slower at first. Wouldn't buy something like that till he had his license at least.

Funny part is even at 2500rpms the GT500 makes more to the ground than most cars have bhp. My lowly 2010 puts over 200rwhp at 2500rpm...I'd bet at 2013 is already approaching 300rwhp. Torque...even higher! So, I agree with your logic but think it should be limited to somewhere between 600 and 800rpm

Mine may be a decent bit more than stock but I can varify that on sub60 degree roads, 3rd gear will spin tires at 2500rpm.

Nice...mine will only spin 3rd but once the boost hits in cooler temps, warmer temps 3rd is OK if I ease into it otherwise it will spin a little. Your car is simply a beast! I'd love to see how your car would do from a roll with a GTR. A friend of mine has an 09 GTR and I cannot wait to run him from a roll

BTW...what tires are you going to go with? I'm thinking about the Nitto 555's, I've heard good things about them. The F1's are simply scary on this car, they handle decent but very little straight line traction. Guys switching to a sticky tire are posting low 4 0-60 and mid 11's on a stock 10' 500. Just goes to show how crappy those tires are, no doubt with a better tire your car will run 10's stock.

Maybe the parents don't like the kid too much.. In which case all they need to do is hand him the keys and show him how to turn the traction control off
