I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed, and some of the changes for 2013 are pretty cool. Pretty sure I hate those tacky "pony" projections from the mirrors though.

I will say you definitely get used to the wheel. It's fairly ergonomic for a 9-3 position even though it might not look it at first. |
Holy ****, I just priced out a build, just about $40K, and that wasn't including every option (no glass roof, no sync, etc). It might be worth it, but that seems insane to me.
|
It has to have sync if you got it to $40k. If you chose the premium package, it comes with Sync.
|
I just priced a build as if I was going to buy one right now. GT Premium (comes with Sync, shaker 500 stereo, etc), Track Package, Recaros, backup cam. MSRP was 40,265 so the price I'd actually pay would be around 38k which IMO is good for a 100% track ready car.
|
I don't think it's Premium. Regardless, it isn't every option, or even close to it.
Build Your 2013 Ford Mustang edit: Okay, yeah, it is the Premium. Still, seems pretty crazy to spend that much on a "normal" Mustang. Sweet, almost $46k with all of the options (not convertible). |
The one you chose is the GT Premium, which includes Sync, premium stereo, and all of the premium trimmings. So you're getting everything a Premium GT offers, including the Recaros, and the track package for just under $40k MSRP (you'd pay ~35-36k invoice or lower). That's a great deal, again, for 100% track ready 420hp.
IMO, if you were building a car with track pack and recaros you probably wouldn't want to add the glass roof. The only other option I could see that would really drive the price up would be the NAV package. |
It's rare for someone to get "all of the options."
There are gobs of options and option combos so you can build it exactly how you want it. I suppose if you wanted everything, it would cost you a bit. But like I said before, most people who opt for the "track package" won't get an option like the glass roof, whereas someone who gets the California Special package might want it. |

The wheel was one of my biggest gripes. I still wish it was a tad bit smaller, but you get used to it. |
That "track pack" option is pretty awesome. Seems like it comes with all of the important bits from the Boss. I'd still never buy one though, I enjoy driving more unique cars. Mustangs are so dime a dozen, and around here 90% of the drivers are either chicks, or fratboy's driving like ********.

Another reason, is it doesn't really fit what I'm looking for. In the next few years, I'll be trading in my 370Z, and getting (likely) a C7 Corvette as a weekend/track car, eventually to be track dedicated. Then for a daily driver either the next Z, or something like the BRZ (hopefully STI).

I didn't realize the 2013 Mustangs were already available. I saw a V6 convertible on my way to school this morning.
|
Seems too close to me. It'd be like me having a GT500 as a weekend car. I'd need something completely different.

Steve, what do you get over the base GT if I choose the GT Premium?
|
Yawnnnn... Another thread about the 5.0. I'm gonna join a Mustang forum, maybe they all talk about Z's over there cause every other post here is about a 5.0

On a serious note, you gonna make it to ZDayZ this year? |

I, for one, find it neat that they like the community so much that they stick around.

I really like the new vented hood. Looks sick. Must resist... would screw up my car(s) plan.

I briefly toyed with the idea of getting a 2013 Boss LS, mainly used for the track and weekend driving, but I know I'd trade it in a couple years for a C7 or something else. Just seems stupid to get one only to keep it for 2 years. Not to mention their rarity pretty much keeps them at or above MSRP, and at $50K... OUCH! |
Yep there will always be something newer, better. DAMN THIS HOBBY!!!
|
The 2013 model definitely seems like a quick little refresh just to hold people over before they release their next-gen model, and the 50th anniversary is the perfect time for that.

I'm also thinking if getting my next car in 2014, there will be do many good choices then. New mustang, C7 Z06, new Viper, GT-R, etc.
|
2014....dunno if a can wait that long. For goodness' sake, one of my cars is a 2011
|
Well, its MY2014, so it'd be out some time in 2013.
|
"Do I really want to trade in my Z for a car I will only own for 2 years?".... That's the question I'm asking myself right now.
I also need to evaluate the differences between 2012 and 2013 models, because there are some good deals on the 2012's. edit: Oh I guess that Track Pack isn't available on 2012's, so I definitely want a 2013. |
