Crap. New Windshield time :(
Yea, after 500 miles. New windshield. Marble-sized rock flew up and took it out. Nissan uses thin glass and it did it in.
Anyway, $500 Insurance company contracts through Safelite, and they are using OEM glass and coordinating that with my dealership. How bad will the tear my 3 day old car up replacing this? :shakes head: |
oh crap! :( the outer a-pillar cover is hard to remove without breaking so i would keep an eye on that. courtesyparts.com sells pre-painted ones if they do break them.

Did not see what you were talking about re: pre-painted one's, though. |
Good luck. I'm still dealing with Safelite after they damaged the paint on my car removing the old windshield adhesive. They are trying to give me the runaround.

A Virginia Z Owner and I have both had the same experience on separate occasions. Rock on glass. Mine was two weeks after I bought the car. Both of us used Safelite and had no issue.
|
I don't think you have any other options, if you need the windshield replaced, it's gotta be done. I wouldn't worry about Safelite specifically, it all depends on who it is that is actually working on your car.
I will tell you now though, you are going to be cringing as you watch all the panels that need to be removed on our car to remove the windshield. |

How do I replace that trim if they crack it? Kenchan's link did not lead me to anything pre-painted. |
If you are concerned with safelite... I'm not sure what the laws are like in your state, but the company cannot dictate who does the work for you.

I even keep my 2002 G20 in flawless condition almost. I am OCD about stuff. |
That sucks, but I think everything will be fine.

It won't de-value the car in any way, if they do it right and oem glass is used, will it? |
Nah, no one would even know. Honestly, I think the OEM glass is **** anyway, so I didn't care that they used an aftermarket windshield.

Nope, it shouldn't devalue anything at all. |

I called Courtesy, and yes, they can get them pre-painted. I just hope this isn't the nightmare that I think it will be. |
If the installer accidentally drops the windshield in your driveway and then with a weird happenstance simultaneously drops a burning cigarette into the gas tank while a black hole devours the earth from the Long Hadron Corridor it might devalue your car. But otherwise I wouldn't worry.
|
Make sure the tech wears gloves any time he touches the glass. I saw something on TV years ago where glass techs were getting grease/oil from their hands on the portion of the glass that the adhesive sticks to, and the windows weren't sealing worth a crap.
|
Bad luck :(

Some of the installers aren't the most careful, gentle workers you would want. However, as you give them a cold drink, explain to them that you are OCD, this is a brand new car and that it's your baby and that you would really appreciate them being extra gentle with it, it should be okay.
I know I had one safelite guy come out once and he had his shirt tucked in and a big metal belt buckle and as he started to lean over the fender of the car I stopped him and had to ask him if he would mind taking his belt off as I was worried about scratches (duh). I tend to stay around and watch hoping that will make them a bit more careful. Good luck. |

Coke? Milk? Juice? Water? Maybe I should stock up on all of the above and ask preference. I don't really "host", so that sort of thing, it's the dark continent to me. |

I would order Pieworks Pizza, but that's oily, and the glass... :ugh2: |
Thats some bad news bears stuff right there. Good luck on the replacement. I hope that all goes well with the tear down and install.

We should send a high dollar hooker to IC's house to get him to relax a bit. :icon17:

Yeah a new windshield was also my very first mod after purchasing my car. Driving down the highway with no one in front of us for a good quarter mile and yet a rock slammed right into the windshield near the rear view mirror and within hours extended to the very top of the windshield. Got it replaced about a week later for $100 deductible and this specific one looks better than the original IMO. Still sucked though.

I finally just got a call from the local Safelite manager about the damage they caused. He told me just to get a quote from whatever shop I want to repair it, and then fax it to them, and they'll make sure it gets paid. The last part has me leery, just cause I'm always paranoid, but other than that I'm happy so far. This isn't even the same shop where the guy who damaged my car works for, I think they just got approval from corporate to pay out for the repairs.
Only shitty thing is I'll be without my car for 2-3 days, but luckily I can work from home. |
flashburn- if that was me, i would've included my insurance guy.... let them handle the finances and discussions, etc. :) GL though!

When I had mine done I took it out myself and then let our glass company install it and then I buttoned it up.

Safelite is the worst glass company.:shakes head:

Is most aftermarket glass better quality that Nissan? And how would you know?
