Snakes' build thread
So im bored out of my mind, not much to do right now here in Afghan. After reading another thread i decided ill make a thread for my build on my Evo.
So here is my 2011 Evo-X GSR... http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...76805083_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...09/fall001.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...9/IMG_1746.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...9/IMG_1684.jpg So current mods as it sits in storage are AMS Widemouth Downpipe T1R Resinated Test Pipe AEM Wideband and Boost Gauge 5% tint F/B Rebadged Perrin Shorty Antenna So either sitting at my place or on the way is.... Engine: Ball Bearing FP Red, ported, hiflow oil feed line and 25psi WGA ETS 4" Intercooler AMS Upper Intercooler Pipe AMS Lower Intercooler Pipe w/ TiAL QR bov AMS Cold Air Intake GrimSpeed 3port boost solenoid Tomei Expreme Exhaust (light weight baby!!...less then 10lbs) Boomba Racing Catch Can Transmission: MT-85 Fluid TWM Short Throw Shifter with cage replacement, black pearl leopard a6 knob, base, cable and underhood bushings ACT HD 6 Puck Clutch kit ACT Streetlite Flywheel AMS CMC Fuel System: 91 Octane Walbro 255lph fuel pump Fuel Lab 3" inline fuel filter AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator Kit FIC 1100cc Injectors Handling: Perrin 25mm Rear Sway Bar Perrin Adjustable rear endlinks AMS SS Brake lines Motul 600 brake fluid Appearence: Projector Headlights 6000k HID's (low beam and fogs) OEM High Rise Spoiler Swap. Rally Armor Mudflaps (just for the winter/spring, until the roads are cleaned) Full pod pillar replacement (only a cover for now since no one makes them, a full replacement is about to be released) Varis Front Lip Tuning: Clipse3GT etune So here are a few pictures of the parts that are already there. http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...10982304_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...64048028_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...kes709/006.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...30720243_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...s709/001-1.jpg And here it is all cleaned up http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...09/photo-5.jpg The AMS parts should be there on monday, the rear sway bar and endlinks were shipped 2 days ago. The fuel system and headlights are processing right now. The wing will be shipped next week. So now the story. Bought the car new (25km on it), went to the drag strip that night and ran a 13.5@101. After adding the dp and tp and learning how to actually use the 2 step system i ran 13.2@103. About a week later i hit up Stratotech Raceway for a time attack event. Talked to the other evo drivers about times and they said since im new to the car i should have a lap time of 72sec. My fastest lap was 70.3 (with just the dp and tp) which i was pretty pleased with, alot of room for improvement though. Here are some videos of the drag strip and time attack... EvoX vs R32 Skyline - YouTube abit of sound delay on this one... EvoX vs Shelby GT 500 - YouTube last run of the day on this one and was getting fuel starvation due to low fuel, u can see the power just stop on the back stretch EvoX Time Attack #6 - YouTube EvoX Time Attack Race - YouTube and the one where i almost **** myself EvoX @ Stratotech - YouTube So after the season was over i got deployed with the army. While i was gone i bought my buddies exhaust system for $700. I was planning on doing just boltons but a group buy came up with the new bb turbos so i got in on it. I plan for power wise is approx 28psi which will give me around 410-440hp and 370-380lb trq. Been talking to the guy that tunes the evo's. He said that is the average results of the cars he has tuned with the venture bearing fp red...so mine should make power easier and make full boost by 3600rpm...pretty much near stock. I wanted something that will spool quick for hpde and autox events. I'll hit the drag strip up every now and then, i should defently be in the 11's with that set up, but we will see. After i got the turbo i was just focused on power mods, was going to leave it at that and any extra tour money i was going to put it towards paying the car off. However i couldnt let my suspension go untouched, so i bought a rear sway bar and endlinks from a member on the forums. He bought them but never installed them, he decided he is going to go with a s2000 for a track car. When i first bought the car it came with the oem low rise spoiler which i was happy, wasnt a fan of the high rise. But after my gf nagging at me about getting the high rise it actualy grew on me. Got quoted $1770 from the dealerships and oem mitsu online, thats without paint either. I said screw that. Found a guy that is selling me his for $300 + $250 shipping. Its silver so i got the gf to call one of the dealerships and another shop that was recommend by a friend to paint it phantom black...best quote i got was $178. So thats pretty much for now, im heading back east on vacation this summer so no more mods this year. Over the winter of 2012/2013 ill be buying rims/tires...still havent decided yet, want something lightweight that looks good. Also depending how the clutch holds up, ill either keep stock or go with a Exedy double clutch with lightweight flywheel. I'll be changing my brakes to Dirodisk 2 piece rotors (cuts off 18lbs), street/track pads, AMS ss lines and racing fluid. After that will be Ohlins coilvers and camber plates. We will see how the engine is holding up by next year, if it looks like its taking abit of a beating ill start ordering parts for a engine build. Not sure if i want to stay 2.0L or go 2.2 or 2.3L. We will see though. I'll be updating as the other parts come in and once i get home in march ill have everything installed, tuned and dyno'ed. |
great looking evo! good luck with the build:tup:
|
Clean ride.....
|
thanks, cant wait to get home and start the fun part :D
|
I normally don't find Evos attractive, but this one is definitely a looker!!!!!
|
|
I avoid build threads on evom as not to be tempted to mod my X (I want to run b-stock for a year, or maybe STU), but I quite like what you have going on, other than the tail lights.
The high rise spoiler is awesome at night when some jerk has their brights on behind you, you can just lean your head a bit & the lights are blocked vs fooling with the mirror. Subscribed for future updates. |
Not an Evo fan, but I really like this!!! Nice build, awesome wing!
Subscribed for updates. |
Nice ride!!!!

UPDATE:
Rear Sway bar and Rear Endlinks showed up :D http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...83132390_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...9/endlinks.jpg Also the girlfriend picked me up a CompuStart Alarm/Remote starter for $328. |
:yum:
I need to get more parts for mine :shakes head: |
yes, yes u do...lol.
Also here is a picture of the AMS Widemouth Downpipe that i bought from a buddy of mine awhile back. Probably one of the hardest things a EvoX owner will ever install...well the install is easy but getting the stock O2 housing off was a bitch. http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...87206681_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...50220328_n.jpg |

So i decided to buy the tuning software/device myself. I'm getting etuned, but was getting my buddy in edmonton to use his stuff to hook up to my car to do the data logging and load the new tunes. I decided its easier and better in the long long if i had it myself. So i downloaded ECUFLAH, orderd EvoScan and Tractrix OP 2.0.

So i got both the ECUFLASH and EvoScan to tune the car downloaded. The Tactrix OP 2.0 and extention wire is on its way, should be in edmonton on Monday. Even tho im getting etuned im still reading everything possible so maybe i can possibly tune the car down the road. I got a pretty good idea how to dial the injectors in for cruise/idle. I downloaded a stock map of the evo, so i been messing around with that, obviously theres only so much i can do since i dont have the car.
My headlights, fuel pump, fuel presure regulator kit, mud flaps, fuel filter and boost solenoid should all be deliverd on thursday. The oem high rise wing will take some time to get, the seller had a pipe burst in his house and is busy repairing **** to get me a final quote to ship it. Due to the holidays and people changing their minds what they wanted, the turbos are taking abit longer to rebuild and ship. Expecting it to ship early/mid Feb. I'm hopping it will be delieverd by the time i get home. |
I like that you keep your thread updated. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
|
Yea parts keep rolling in..lol. The fun updates wont happen until march though :(
|
UPDATE:
My Tactrix 2.0 OP device for tuning and my headlights arrived. The headlights dont look as rice-ish as i thought they did, but none the less im still going to open them up and change a few things. I didnt want to open my oem ones up so thats why i bought these ones. Also im now officaly sponsored by MAPerformance :happydance: It's just a partial sponsor for now until they see my race results and advertisement results. http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...79408510_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...54946724_n.jpg |
Another update:
My parts from MAP arrived Grimmspeed 3 port boost solenoid Rally Armor Mudflaps Walbro 255lph fuel pump AEM fuel pressure regulator kit fuel filter MT-85 transmission oil Some of the parts that are waiting for me to get home :D http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...kes709/box.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...s709/parts.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...s709/3port.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...kes709/fpr.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...s709/gauge.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...akes709/RA.jpg |
I keep debating whether to get mudflaps. They do look rad, though.
|
im only going to keep them on the car until the roads are cleaned from the winter. Not a fan of the looks of them on the car but i want to protect the paint from getting sand blasted
|
I like them on mine.. It looks rally style.. but if I were to lower the car then.. ya they would look kinda funny
|
^^^ exactly. I plan on getting ohlins coilover next year so thats one of the reasons why i dont want them on the car year round. For winters ill raise the car back to stock height and put the mudflaps on.
Also my FP BB Red Turbo is ready to ship tomorrow. However i have to pay off the remaining balance before it ships, which wont be until Feb 15th since i have to spend some money on my next pay (on tuesday) to pay for the oem high rise wing im buying. Also thinking it might be a good idea to get some braided ss brake lines and racing fluid..lol. Probably should have waited to spend that $1700 on bike parts..lol. |
Ya, I'm looing to get some brake lines and fluid within the next month to get ready for my first track day coming up 2nd week of April.. coming up sooon! I think I'm going to stay with the stock turbo this season and then try to decide if I want to keep the car or try to move into a GTR, but for the price I could gut my X and build it to the hilt and still have money left to buy another evo or and 30k car as a DD..
|
i say keep the evo. Costs less to mod it and it can be just as fast as a gt-r. I'm actually hovering over an idea right now. My buddy is offering his nearly new te37's rims to me for 2700.
|
Nice, what size
|
18X10.5 +15 ....im kinda iffy tho. I was kinda aiming for 9.5 or 10. But i think i can live with a 10.5 since its pretty much half the price i would be paying if i orderd brand new. Most guys go with rpf1's due to the weight savings which is what i would love (the weight savings) but im not a fan of those rims. I'll be going with girodisc 2 piece rotors which is i think 4lbs off each corner, the rpf'1s are 4lbs lighter i believe then my oem, so thats 8lbs off of each corner if i did that combo.
But with still needing to pay a few things off and my tour coming to an end, ill have to make a choice..lol. Also my full pod pillar replacement from DSG is on the way. Gotta love team sponsorships, they havent even released the product nor the price and yet i have the product on the way. Should arrive tomorrow or Wed. |
I was going to wait until I do my brakes next year. But after putting some thought into it and seeing Evo's with just a few boltons, boil their brake fluid. I've decided to order AMS SS braided brake lines and Motul 600 brake fluid.
Also my OEM high rise wing is on the way :D |
More parts arrived :D
OEM High rise wing http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...94032300_n.jpg AMS SS Brake lines and brake fluid http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...41490416_n.jpg And the mess to follow... http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...37182164_n.jpg http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...00850555_n.jpg |
You're going to have a lot of fun when you're home.
|
yes sir i will, haha. The last 2 things are on the way. The new gauge pillar and the turbo. Hopefully the wait time for a few bolts i need from the dealership is what they told me. I need 2 bolts for the o2 housing to the turbo. My buddy snapped one when we were removing the stock o2 housing. I'm getting a second one just incase i snap another one. The girlfriend checked the dealership and they said 3-4 days but they want me to come in to look at the diagram to make sure its the right one. I also need to order a nut for the manifold to the block since i dropped one in the engine bay and never found it...lol.
Also note: it's pretty obvious but the box that says Yoshimura on it is my full titanium exhaust for my bike. Not sure which one, but one of box has my sprockets and other parts for my bike as well. |
Beautiful ride:tup:
|
Thanks. btw, sick avatar, the car looks mean as hell..lol. Also if anyone is wondering, that black bag has my royal purple 5W30 and K&N filter for the engine. I got the gf to go out to Canadian Tire to pick it up so i wouldnt have to the day i do the install. Although i still need to pick up a 3" exhaust gasket and a serial to usb adaptor so i can wire it up to my wideband for data logging.

Well it might be different in person but going off your avator, it looks sick. I'm usally not a fan of the red lights people put in their headlights, but with the fangs of the Z, it defently goes together.
